    Abstract: In a process for the production of homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of preformed ethylene polymer and in the absence of other diluents and using catalysts containing chromium oxides at pressures of 5 to 100 atmospheres, the ethylene is allowed to act on a mechanically moved suspension of the catalyst in the molten ethylene polymer at temperatures between 130 DEG and 230 DEG C. In the examples, ethylene is polymerized in batches or continuously, alone or with the comonomers propylene or butene-1, and with a catalyst comprising chromium trioxide on an aluminium silicate carrier suspended in a molten polyethylene which may be waxy.

    Abstract: The storage medium has a pair of wiring electrodes (3) supplied with high voltage (1 to 40 kV) from a transformer via respective capacitors (1,2) of about 10pF. A strip of paper (4) is unreeled continuously between the electrodes (3) which produce local modification of the electrical conductivity of the carrier material in discrete regions by electrochemical reaction in the polyer film with conjugated double bonds. The material may be e.g polyacetylene or a polymerised acetylene deriv. which responds to electric field strengths of 1 MV.cm!or!more.!An!interrupter!switch!(5)!is!utilised!in!the!sec. circuit of the transformer for on/ off modulation of the current supplied to the electrodes (3).
