Abstract: The resins are prepd. by (a) alkylating at >=15%, (esp. 20-50%) of the sec. N atoms of the polyamido-amine, and (b) reacting the alkylated product with ethylenically unsatd. 3-5C mono- or dicarboxylic acids or their derivs., vinyl sulphonate, acrolein and/or methacrolein at 30-140 degrees C., (pref. 40-120 degrees C). Pref. this reaction is effected with (meth)acrolein. Used to increase the dry strength of paper, without increasing the wet strength. Effective amts. are 0.2-3% calc. on the solid material, added to the fibre suspensions before paper mfr.

Abstract: Parent patent described water-soluble, cross-linked, nitrogenous condensation prods. (I), the viscosity of which in aq. soln. increases with increase in temp. and falls again with decrease in temp., are prepd. by reacting (a) 0.8-30 pts. of a block copolymer of formula (II) R-O-(CH2CH2O)x-(CH2CH(CH3)O)y-(CH2CH2O)x-R, in which R is H(OCH2-C(CH2Cl)H-)n, with n = 0.75-3, -CH2- x = 50-250, y = 20-100 and x:y = 6.5:1-1:15, with (b) 1 pt. of a cpd. with is not 4 basic NH gps. Reaction is in a polar solvent at 20-180 degrees C. In this addn. (I) are used as corrosion inhibitors for Zn, Al or their alloys. (I) give protection against corrosion at all pH levels and in low concn., and can be used in various metal-treating processes. Acid-sensitive alloys, e.g. "Duralumin" (RTM can be protected in strongly acid media (pH 2).

Abstract: Reaction prods. from block copolymers of formula RO(CH2CH2O)X-(CH2(CH3)CHO)y-(CH2CH2O)x-R (I) (where R is x is 50-250; y is 20-100; x:y is 6.5:1 to 1:15), with cpds. contg. >=4 basic NH gps., in wt. ratio 0.8-30:1, or with ethylene imine in wt. ratio 1:0.1-0.8, in polar solvent at 20-180 degrees C, are used as release agents. Used for applying to hot moulds and processing equipment, e.g. for mixing, calendering, etc., esp. for thermoplastics and rubber, and film, sheet, etc. Excellent release is obtd. without affecting adhesion of subsequent coatings. Blocking of plastics or rubber sheet in roll form during storage is prevented. In dil. aq. systems they give high viscosity, which increases with rising temp. stabilising the vapour cushion which forms on the surface of hot moulds and prevents adhesion.

Abstract: Water-soluble, crosslinked nitrogen-containing condensation products, the viscosity of which, in aqueous solution, increases with increasing temperature, are obtained by reacting a chlorohydrin-ether of the formula (I) where x is from 50 to 250, y is from 20 to 100, the ratio x:y is from 6.1:1 to 1:15 and n is from 0.5 to 5, with ethyleneimine in the weight ratio of from 1:10.1 to 1:0.8; the condensation products are added to aqueous systems, e.g. polymer solutions and polymer dispersions, to improve the viscosity characteristics.

Abstract: Water-soluble benzylated polyamidoamines which contain from 0.1 to 0.9 mole of benzyl groups per equivalent of nitrogen, and onto which from 20 to 400 parts by weight of ethyleneimine or propyleneimine have been grafted per 100 parts by weight of polyamidoamine, processes for the preparation of the materials, and the use of the materials as cationic assistants in processes for coloring paper with acid dyes and/or direct dyes in an aqueous medium. The papers obtained show a high color strength, with substantially no two sidedness of the coloration.

Abstract: The copolymers (I) pref. acrylic acid with e.g. vinyl benzene or their alkali-, ammonium- or amine salts in 0.0005-2% aq. soln. as a quenching medium for tempering metal workpieces is claimed. The quenching bath may also contain 0.05-0.5 wt.% polyether cpd. (II) opt. contg. N, pref. alkoxylated amines. The bath has improved heat transfer properties i.e. improved cooling rate for the metal and the polymer has higher stability. The polymer forms hardly any deposits on the hardened metal surface. There is no localised cooling of the workpiece and crack formation is avoided. The bath can be used for Al, Cu alloys and esp. steel.

Abstract: Used of crosslinked copolymer contg. Good release properties, without adverse effect on subsequent treatment by coating, heat-sealing etc. Aq. soln. contg. 0.005-2 (0.05-0.5) wt.% copolymer from 3-6C unsatd. acid, e.g. (meth)acrylic or maleic acid, and a monomer with 2 C=C bonds, e.g. butadiene or divinyl benzene, or salts of these copolymers, and 0.05-10 wt.% polyether cpd. e.g. and adduct of an alkylene oxide and an alcohol, carboxylic acid, phenol, carbonamide or amine, which further stabilises the Leidenfrost vapour film between the mould and the material being moulded.

Abstract: Water sol., cross-linked, N-contg. condensation prods (I), the viscosity of which in aq. soln. increases with an increase in temp. and drops with a reduction in temp., are prepared by reaction of 1 mol. block copolymer HO-CCH2CH2O)x(CH2CH(Me)O)y(CH2CH2OeH (I) (where X is 50-250, y is 20-100 and the ratio x:y is 6.5:1 to 1:15) with >=1.5 mol. TDI or diisocyanate OCN -(CH2)-NCO (where n is 2-8) and crosslinking the prod. by addn. of water as well as opt. polyvalent alcohols, their alkoxylated prods. or cpds. contg. >=4 basic NH gps. A 10% aq. (I) soln. has a viscosity (20 degrees C) of 10-4500 in Pas. The viscosity changes are reversible (I) may be used to prevent dye migration and can be added to printing pastes in an amt. of 0.05-10%. (I) may also be used in aq. polymer solns. and dispersions. An increase in the viscosity of dispersions or solns. allows exact coatings even at high machine speeds.
