Abstract: In a method (M1) for the production of prepolymers (I) by reacting isocyanate group-containing prepolymers (i) with silanes (ii) containing group(s) which react with isocyanate, the mol ratio of isocyanate groups in (i) to silane units in (ii) = (1.01:1)-(10:1). Independent claims are also included for (1) a method (M2) for the production of (I) by reacting (i) with (ii) and a polyol component (iii) which may also contain other substances such as foam stabilisers and/or catalysts, in which (i) is mixed with (ii) at the same time as (iii) or before (iii) (2) a method (M3) for the production of (I) with a free NCO group content of 1-15 wt% and a monomeric isocyanate content of less than 0.4 wt%, by reacting an isocyanate (ia) with polyol(s) (ib) (preferably with a functionality of 3 or less), reacting the unreacted monomeric isocyanate with (ii) and then optionally reacting the product with (iii), optionally in presence of diluents, stabilisers, catalysts and gaseous blowing agents (3) prepolymers (I) obtained by these methods (4) reaction products of (a) isocyanate, (b) polyol and (ii) NCO-reactive silane, with an NCO content of 1-15 wt% and a monomeric isocyanate content of less than 0.4 wt% (5) one- or two-component PUR foam-in-can systems based on (I) .

Abstract: A prepolymer for use in 1-component polyurethane foam in cans is made by reacting polyols with a stoichiometric excess of a monomer-free polyisocyanate which is obtained by reacting a di-isocyanate with less than the stoichiometric amount of polyol and then removing the excess di-isocyanate. One-component polyurethane foam made by depressurising a prepolymer (I) which is obtained by reacting a monomer-free polyisocyanate (II) with a stoichiometric deficit of polyols and which is contained in a pressure can with a physical blowing agent. The polyisocyanate used (II) is obtained by reacting a di-isocyanate with less than the stoichiometric amount of polyol and then removing the excess di-isocyanate. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a prepolymer (I) as described above for the production of 1-component polyurethane foam in cans; (2) a method as described above for the production of (I); and (3) a method as described above for the production of 1-component polyurethane foam in cans.
