Abstract: The material has magnetisable layer(s) on a nonmagnetic carrier, and contains a binder mixt. of a polyurethane urea (meth)acrylate (1) and polyurethane elastomer, a high MW OH- gp. contg. polyurethane urea and/or a low MW OH- contg. polyurethane urea. (1) is made by reaction of a poly(meth)acrylate with up to 2 OH-end gps. and a MW 200-50000 and a mixt. aliphatic polyisocyanates with an NCO- functionality of 3-6 per mole. The polyisocyanates contain 0.1-10 wt.% of diisocyanates, 20-80 wt.% triisocyanates and 20-60 wt.% of isocyanates with a functionality of 4-10. There are 1.2-3 NCO gps. per OH gp., and the remaining NCO gps are converted to urea gps. with ammonia or with prim. or sec. amines.

Abstract: Novel polymer compsns. (I), for use as dispersant resins, are obtd. by reacting a hydroxylated polymer (II) with a polyfunctional isocyanate (III). The amt. of NCO gps. is 1.2-3.0 mol. per mol. of OH gps. of (II). Then the prod. (IV) is reacted with ammonia or a cpd. (V) having an isocyanate-reactive amino function. (II) is obtd. from 80-100 mol.% of a 1-25 C alkyl ester of an alpha , beta -unsatd. carboxylic acid, 0-20 mol.% of a comonomer, tetrahydrofuran hydroperoxide (THFHPO) as polymerisation initiator and opt. another polymerisation initiator and/or regulator, such that most of the chains of (II) are hydroxy-terminated. The process of prepn. of (I) is claimed, as well as (I) per se.

(I) is prepd. by reacting (II) with a cpd. (III) having OH gp(s). and also NCO-reactive amino gp(s). in such an amt. that the no. of reactive amino gps. in (III) corresponds to the no. of NCO gps. in (II). Also claimed are articles with a coating, esp. a coating contg. a magnetic pigment, and magnetic recording materials contg. (I); and the coating process.
