Abstract: Se proveen un sistema y método para determinar una concentración de cloro total en agua de diálisis. El sistema comprende una unidad principal que aloja una cámara de KL/muestra de agua y una cámara de sulfato de sodio. Un primer par de electrodos puentea las dos cámaras y genera triyoduro proporcional a la cantidad de calor total en la muestra de agua. Un segundo par de agua electrodos en contacto con el fluido en la KL/muestra de agua detecta una cantidad de triyoduro generada por el primer par de electrodos. El sistema es apropiado para uso en conexión con, o para incorporación en, un sistema de purificación de agua para generar fluido de diálisis, y puede incluir una pantalla que alerte al usuario a que detenga o evite un tratamiento de hemodiálisis si el nivel de cloro total excede un nivel predeterminado.

Abstract: The present invention provides an intravenous fluid flow regulator 10 for controlling the I.V. administration of medical fluid to a patient. The fluid flow regulator 10 provides a housing 12 having a top 18 and a bottom 20. A flexible diaphragm 14 is positioned within housing 12. A diaphragm holder 16 is provided inside housing 12 for holding a sealing edge 56 of flexible diaphragm 14 in fluid sealing engagement with diaphragm holder 16. The housing 12 and flexible diaphragm 14 define an inlet fluid reservoir 62 and an outlet fluid reservoir 64. The diaphragm holder 16 defines a by-pass fluid channel 54 from inlet fluid reservoir 62, around diaphragm 14, to outlet fluid reservoir 64. The flexible diaphragm 14 being flexible to alternatively move into inlet fluid reservoir 62 and outlet fluid reservoir 64 depending on a fluid pressure differential between inlet fluid reservoir 62 and outlet fluid reservoir 64. A fluid inlet 24 is connected to housing top 18 to provide an inlet fluid passage 27 from an I.V. bag containing medical fluid to inlet fluid reservoir 62. A fluid outlet 34 is connected to housing bottom 20 to provide an outlet fluid passage 44 from outlet fluid reservoir 64 to the patient. At least one rib 48 connected to bottom 20 is provided to prevent movement of flexible diaphragm 14 into outlet fluid reservoir 64 when flexible diaphragm 14 moves into outlet fluid reservoir 64 a predetermined distance.

Abstract: A device, a system and a method are provided for controllably releasing a product (26) into a container (10) in which the product (26) is mixed with another product contained within an interior (14) of the container 10. The device (12) releases the product (26) due to variations in temperature or pressure that the system experiences during an autoclaving or sterilization procedure, for example. Materials and shapes of the members (20, 20a, 20b, 22) of the device (12) are selected such that the members (20, 20a, 20b, 22) react or otherwise move within the device in a predetermined manner in response to changes in temperature or pressure. As a result, products (26) within the device (12) may be maintained separately from products within the interior (14) of the container (10) in which the device (12) is held. Prior to administration of a solution within the container (10), the product (26) within the device (12) may be mixed with the solution or other product in the container (10) in a controllable fashion.

Abstract: A polymer based composition for fabricating into articles is described. The composition comprises: a polypropylene in an amount by weight from 40-90% of the composition and having a melting temperature greater than 130 DEG C; a radio frequency susceptible polymer in an amount by weight from 5-50% of the composition and having a dielectric loss greater than 0.05 at 1-60 MHz and ambient temperature to 250 DEG C, the susceptible polymer being selected from (1) polymers containing at least one segment selected from the group consisting of urethanes, esters, ureas, imides, sulfones, and amides, and (2) ethylene copolymers having 50-85% ethylene content copolymerized with at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, ester derivatives of acrylic acid with alcohols having 1-10 carbons, vinyl acetate, and vinyl alcohol; a compatibilizing polymer in an amount by weight from 5-30% of the composition, the compatibilizing polymer conferring compatibility between the radio frequency susceptible polymer, and the polypropylene, the compatibilizing polymer being a styrenic block copolymer with hydrocarbon soft segments, and wherein the composition has an optical haze value of less than 30% for the composition processed into a film of about 0.299 mm in thickness measured in accordance to ASTM D-1003, a mechanical modulus of less than 2758x10 Pa when measured according to ASTM D-882 and the composition exhibits no strain whitening after being strained at moderate speeds of about 50 cm per minute to about 100% elongation.

Abstract: A needless connector is provided which utilizes a resealable preslit septum valve. The valve is resiliently restrained relative to a housing with the valve and housing configured to accept a standard male luer lock having a luer tip which penetrates the valve through the opening to extend within the housing and a luer locking flange of the luer lock extending about the housing. The valve includes a disk shaped upper portion covering the opening, a lower portion spaced from the housing and extending downward from the disk shaped portion into a passageway defined by the housing, and an annular skirt to attach the septum to the housing. The connector exhibits satisfactory leak pressure after multiple connections and disconnects to the luer lock fitting and long periods of indwell of the luer tip.
