Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent image information from being omitted and to unnecessitate a reduction circuit for display by decoding a stored progressive compressed code up to any prescribed hierarchy corresponding to the resolution of a display means and the resolution of a stored image. CONSTITUTION:A MODEM 2 is connected to a line through an NCU 3. This equipment is provided with a control part 1, a transmission/reception buffer 4, an image file 5 such as a hard disk or a DRAM, a JBIG encoder/decoder 6 for performing encoding/decoding in the progressive compressing system of JBIG, an encode/decoder 7 for MN, an MR and MMR systems, a video RAM 8 for displaying images on a display 14, an image buffer 9 for extending hierarchical images required for encoding/decoding, a scanner 10 for reading images, and a printer 11 for recording images. Then, the JBIG encoder/decoder 6 decodes the stored code up to the prescribed hierarchy corresponding to the resolution of the display 14 and the resolution of the image stored in the image file 5.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten communication time by transmitting a CTC signal and performing the re-transmission of it in a long training when a PPR signal receiving signal including the re-request for an image signal from the transmission destination of the image signal is received during the transmission of the image signal following a short training. CONSTITUTION:An original to transmit is set in a reader 3 and transmission preparation is completed, another device 20 is called. A preliminary processing is conducted and a communication path between the device and the receiver (other device) 20 is established. The transmission processing (PIX, PPS and EOP transmission processings) of the first image signal is conducted subsequent to the receiving of a CFR signal. When a CPV 1 recognizes that the PPR signal indicates an error, it transmits the CTC signal and instructs the receiver 20 to re-transmit the next image signal in the long training. As a result, a training error is resolved, the normal communication is enabled and the communication time can be shortened.

The transmission time is totaled when the CPU calculates the transmission time when the information is transmitted to all the opposite parties. The CPU 20 determines the transmission time of the accumulated picture information.

Also, when the recording paper is selected by giving priority to the sub scanning length, the necessity/unnecessity of the division recording are decided, and then whether or not the main scanning length can be recorded on the same recording paper is decided.
