Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain facsimile equipment in which recording paper of an optimum size is selected regardless of setting of a reduction rate of a main body device. CONSTITUTION: The facsimile equipment is provided with a read section 1, a recording section 2, an operation section 3, an NCU 5, a MODEM 6 and a system control section 7 or the like. When the system control section 7 stores one page of received image in a picture memory 10, the read section 1 detects the number of subscanning lines L0 of the received image. A number of subscanning lines of an LGL recording paper is divided by the detected number L0 and the quotient is stored in a RAM 9 as a variable M0. Similarly a number of subscanning lines of an LTR recording paper is divided by the detected number L0 and the quotient is stored in the RAM 9 as a variable M1. The absolute value of the M0-1 is calculated and substituted to the variable M0 and the absolute value of the M1-1 is calculated and substituted to the variable M1. The variables M0, M1 are compared and when the relation of M0>M1 is true, data are printed on the LTR recording paper. When false, data are printed on the LGL recording paper.

The memory storage is started and originating a call and transmission are started.

At this time, while the image memory buffer 2 functions as an image memory, the hard disk device 3 functions as a secondary storage device. Consequently, the received image is stored on the secondary storage device temporarily and recorded in units of one communication, so the recording part is not restrained and used for other purposes even during receiving operation.
