Abstract:
A dual phase whitening oral care composition comprising a first phase comprising a bound peroxide in a substantially anhydrous carrier and a second phase comprising an abrasive and a tartar control system in an orally acceptable carrier. Methods of whitening a tooth surface are also provided.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions comprising: (a) a peroxide complex comprising hydrogen peroxide and an N-vinyl heterocyclic polymer (e.g., poly-N-vinyl polylactam, or poly-N-vinyl-polyimide); (b) a whitening agent (e.g., hydrogen peroxide); and (c) an orally acceptable carrier. In one embodiment, the carrier comprises a film forming material. Methods are also provided for making an oral care composition comprising: (a) mixing a whitening agent, silicone adhesive and carrier fluid to form a homogenous mixture; (b) adding a peroxide complex to said homogenous mixture, wherein said complex comprises hydrogen peroxide and an N-vinyl heterocyclic polymer; and (c) mixing under vacuum.
Abstract:
A composition for delivery of an oral care substance to a dental surface upon application of the composition thereto is a flexible film comprising the oral care substance dispersed in a film-forming effective amount of a polymeric matrix having a hydrophilic component, e.g ., vinylpyrrolidone (VP), and a hydrophobic component, e.g ., vinyl acetate (VA), in a weight ratio selected such that the film is substantially dissolvable in saliva in a period of time effective for delivery of the oral care substance. The polymeric matrix illustratively comprises a poly(VP/VA) copolymer having a VP/VA weight ratio of about 90:10 to about 10:90.
Abstract:
A method for improving effectiveness of an oral care agent comprises preconditioning an oral surface by wiping the surface with an absorbent fabric having impregnated therein or coated thereon an orally acceptable preconditioning agent such as an activating agent for the oral care agent, wherein the wiping transfers an activating effective amount of the preconditioning agent from the fabric to the oral surface, and thereafter applying a composition comprising the oral care agent to the oral surface.
Abstract:
An abrasive dentifrice composition which effects enhanced antiplaque and breath freshening properties which comprises an orally acceptable vehicle containing a combination of a safe and effective amount of an antibacterial agent and at least two enzyme ingredients.
Abstract:
A multichamber container must have certain characteristics in order to uniformly dispense the contents of each chamber from the container. The outer wall of the container and the inner divider web walls must have certain characteristics. The inner divider web walls must be highly flexible while the outer container wall must be less flexible. The Deflective Force for the outer wall must be greater than the Deflective Force for the web walls. In addition, to alleviate the problem of suckback of air into the container chambers, the outer wall should exhibit a specific Retention Index. This is a measure of the outer wall to remain deflected after the removal of the deflecting force. The inner divider web wall will have a lower Retention Index than the outer wall. By the proper selection of outer wall and web walls, there can be uniform dispensing from the dispenser.
Abstract:
An oral care composition comprising zinc phosphate, stannous fluoride, arginine or lysine and an organic acid buffer system, as well as methods of using the same.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an oral care composition comprising: (a) at least one zinc ion source; and (b) at least two active ingredients, wherein said active ingredients are selected from one or more of the following groups: (i) monoterpenoid phenols; (ii) monoterpenoid aldehydes; (iii) sesquiterpenoid alcohols; (iv) active compounds from an extract of oregano; and (v) active compounds from an extract of rosemary.
Abstract:
An oral care composition containing a source of stannous ions, a source of fluoride ions and an insoluble source of zinc ions, such as zinc oxide. The composition contains an amount of citric acid sufficient to increase the level of soluble zinc ions.
