    Abstract: The residual gases obtained in the production of cyanuric chloride having a pressure of 1-5 bar (absolute) preferably 1-4 bar, are worked up by leading them into the lower portion of a column, reacted in the column with at least the equivalent amount of hydrogen cyanide to form cyanogen chloride and led in countercurrent flow to the water charged to the upper portion of the column whereupon the aqueous solution of cyanogen chloride formed is withdrawn from the lower portion of the column and preferably is returned into the production portion of the plant for recovery of the cyanogen chloride while the purified waste gas of the column leaves in the upper portion of the column.

    Abstract: 1527788 Finely divided cyanuric chloride DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 20 Aug 1976 [23 Aug 1975] 34751/76 Heading C2C Finely divided, solid cyanotic chloride, is prepared by spraying liquid cyanuric chloride, which is free from chlorine and cyanogen chloride, into a separation column, cooling the liquid cyanotic chloride with at least one recycled inert gas to such a temperature that cyanuric chloride is deposited in crystalline form, washing the resulting heated gas containing cyanuric chloride vapour in a following second column in countercurrent with an inert liquid which is an effective solvent for cyanuric chloride in order to free the gas from evaporated cyanuric chloride, at the same time, cooling the gas and subsequently returning the gas to the separation chamber whilst the temperature of the washing liquid containing cyanuric chloride which has increased during the washing process is adjusted to the original temperature by recycling through a condenser, and continuously flushing the inside of the pipe connecting the separation column to the washing column with the washing liquid whilst separating a component stream of the washing liquid containing cyanuric chloride in a third column, which is a distillation column, into pure liquid cyanuric chloride which is recycled to the separation column, and into pure washing agent, which is recycled to the washing column. The inert gas is preferably nitrogen used at a temperature of 0-100‹ C., especially 20-60‹ C. The washing liquid may be toluene, xylene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, hexachlorobutadiene, dodecylbenzene, m - chlorotrifluorotoluene, hexafluoroxylene, CF 3 CCl 3 , C 3 F 3 Cl 5 , C 8 F 18 or a mixture thereof. In the examples the product has a grain size distribution of 10-80 Á.

    Abstract: Side reactions in the use of gaseous chlorine are avoided by leading the chlorine containing at least 0.0001% of non-volatile compounds such as ferric chloride over silica gel, glass wool, pumice or montmorillonite. Preferably the thus treated chlorine is passed through hexachlorobutadiene or perfluorokerosene in a second absorption step. Ferric chloride can also be removed from the chlorine gas by treating with sulfuric acid.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a process for producing cyanogen chloride and hydrogen chloride by reacting hydrogen cyanide and chlorine, separating from the gaseous mixture (1) hydrogen chloride and (2) either cyanogen chloride or a mixture of cyanogen chloride and chlorine by absorbing (2) in a halohydrocarbon solvent which has a boiling point between that of cyanogen chloride and cyanuric chloride, separating the dissolved (2) from the solvent by distillation of (2) in a column and returning the solvent to the absorption apparatus the improvement comprising employing as the solvent for the absorption a member selected from a trifluoromethyl aromatic hydrocarbon and trifluoromethyl haloaromatic hydrocarbon.
