    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a methionine-containing molded product causing a small amount of dust, excellent in fluidity and useful for feeds, or the like, by providing the molded product with a prescribed bulk density, a prescribed particle spectrum and a prescribed methionine content. SOLUTION: This molded product has 300-850 kg/m3 bulk density, 63-5,000 μm particle spectrum and 85-95 mass % methionine content in a predominant amount based on the total mass. Furthermore, the methionine-containing molded product is preferably produced by separating water from an aqueous methionine suspension to 8-40 mass % based on the total mass, washing the resultant solid with water, preferably a mother liquor taken out of the production process, adding an organic binder such as methyl cellulose and/or an inorganic binder such as potassium (hydrogen)carbonate, a silicic salt filler and further a compound effective for a feed such as lysine, feeding the resultant mixture to a shaping process, extruding and drying the mixture.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical and economical method for hydrolyzing methionyl-methionine in a suitable ratio, by avoiding undesirable side reaction and decomposition of an end product. SOLUTION: An improved method for producing methionine comprises rapidly converting the methionyl-methionine which is a by-product into the methionine which is the product through hydrolysis reaction. The method is conducted at a high temperature (200°C to 280°C) in a short residence time (20 sec to 200 sec). The method is suitable for increasing a final yield of the methionine which is the desired end product through processes for producing the methionine.     Abstract: Un procedimiento para producir metionina, que comprende las etapas de: a) añadir al menos un compuesto seleccionado de carbonato de potasio, bicarbonato de potasio e hidróxido de potasio a una disolución que contiene 5- (β-metilmercaptoetil)hidantoina para hidrolizar 5-(β- metilmercaptoetil)hidantoina para obtener una disolución que contiene metionina, b) saturar la disolución que contiene metionina con dióxido de carbono para precipitar la metionina, y separar la metionina precipitada al tiempo que se deja un primer filtrado, c) dividir el primer filtrado en una primera parte y en una segunda parte, devolviendo la primera parte a la etapa (a), y transferir la segunda parte a la etapa (d), en donde la primera parte del primer filtrado puede estar ausente, d) calentar la segunda parte del primer filtrado hasta una temperatura de 210ºC a 280ºC durante un tiempo de permanencia entre 20 y 200 segundos y a una presión por encima de la presión de vapor del agua a la temperatura empleada, y saturar el filtrado térmicamente tratado con dióxido de carbono para precipitar la metionina y bicarbonato de potasio, y separar la metionina y el bicarbonato de potasio precipitados al tiempo que se deja un segundo filtrado, y e) descargar el segundo filtrado o devolverlo a la etapa (a).
