Abstract: Prussian Blue is obtd. by reaching Na Ferrocyanide with Fe (II) salts, treating the ferrocyanic acid obtd. with K salt and oxidising the Prussian White to Blue, the pptn. being effected at pH 7 forming an acid Fe (II) salt (FeH2Fe-CN6). The method is now simplified by using initially Fe (II) salts of 2-6 mole% in excess of the amt. required stoichiometrically, and by adding subsequently the three reactants together in stoichiometric amts. and at a pH 1. The Prussian White is formed at 20-60 degrees C. The conversion can be speeded up by raising the temp. to b.pt. Pref. the three reactants are introduced at the same time but through separate feeding devices. The reactor is pref. charged first with sufficient water so that after introduction of the reactants the suspension can be stirred immediately. Suitably the K salt soln. and the ferro salt soln., or a mixt. of the two are charged first. In this case Prussian White is formed immediately after addn. of the other reactant. Pptn. is effected at 30-50 degrees C, pref. at 40 degrees C. After conversion the temp. may be raised to b.pt. by using steam to speed up the end of the reaction.

Abstract: Finely divided hydrophobic silica and silicates are prepared by precipitating of alkali silicate solutions with mineral acids or metal salt solutions and treated with organohalosilanes. To the acid precipitation suspension recovered in known manner there is added as a hydrophobizing agent an organohalosilane, preferably at about 50 DEG to 90 DEG C., the precipitated product filtered, washed and dried and there subjected to a temperature of 300 DEG to 400 DEG C. There is used as the organohalosilane a prepolycondensed organohalosilane or a mixture of prepolycondensed organohalosilanes.
