Abstract: In order to increase active oxygen stability, sodium percarbonate is coated with single or multiple layers of various substances. Sodium percarbonate particles consist of a core of sodium percarbonate fluidized bed spray granulate and sodium sulphate, which may be partially hydrated, as the sole constituent of a single coating layer. The particles exhibit both elevated active oxygen stability and very good ensilability. The coating layer is applied by spraying an aqueous Na2SO4 solution onto the particles to be coated, which were themselves produced by fluidized bed spray granulation, in a fluidized bed and vaporizing water at a fluidized bed temperature of 35 to 100 DEG C.

Detergent, bleaching and cleaning compositions containing sodium percarbonate particles coated in accordance with the invention are distinguished by very high stability in storage.

There is a need for an improved, boron-free, coating for sodium percarbonate. Proposed by the invention is a particle coating containing sodium carbonate plus one or more optionally partly hydrated magnesium compounds, preferably magnesium sulphate, in a single coat or in separate coats. The coating preferably contains two coats. The particles are produced by spraying aqueous solutions containing the coating compounds on to sodium percarbonate in a fluidized bed and at the same time evaporating off the water. Their long shelf life makes particles coated in this way suitable for use in washing, bleaching and cleaning agents.

According to the present invention wet sodium percarbonate salt, obtained by reacting sodium carbonate with hydrogen peroxide in aqueous phase and separating the salt from the aqueous phase, is treated with a solution or suspension containing sodium perborate in a solid-liquid separator by a kind of displacement wash. In contrast to previously known methods, according to the present invention a greater storage stability is attained with smaller quantities of perborate coating.
