    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carboxylate by reacting an alcohol with a carboxylic acid in the presence of a sulfonic acid group a polysiloxane having under a vigorous agitation. SOLUTION: This method for producing a carboxylate ester comprises mixing an alcohol with a carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic anhydride and/or a carboxylate ester and/or a partially esterified carboxylic acid, vigorously stirring the mixture in the presence of a sulfonic acid group-containing solid polysiloxane insoluble in the reaction solvent at 100-220 deg.C, simultaneously continuously separating off the by-produced reaction water, and subsequently isolating the ester. The polysilixane is modified with a soluble titanium, zirconium and/or aluminum compounds. The polysiloxane comprises 0.01-3mm spherical granules, and has a specific surface area of 0.1-1200m /g, a specific pore volume of 0.01-6.0ml/g and a bulk density of 50-1000g/liter.

    Abstract: The preparation of carboxylic acid esters comprises: (a) preparation of a reaction mixture containing an alcohol and at least one compound chosen from a carboxylic acid, carboxylic acid anhydride, carboxylic acid ester or partially esterified carboxylic acid; (b) heating the reaction mixture in the presence of a solid polysiloxane with sulphonic acid groups which is insoluble in the reaction medium, whilst stirring intensively and removing water formed in the reaction; and (c) isolating the chosen ester product. Also claimed are: (i) polysiloxanes with sulphonic acid groups, whose surface is modified with 0.1-1 % aluminium oxide compounds or 0.1-5 % titanium or zirconium oxide compounds, with respect to the solids content and (ii) the preparation of surface-modified polysiloxanes with sulphonic acid groups.

    Abstract: The prodn. of 2,2'-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propanes (BHPP) comprises reacting the corresp. phenols and carbonyl cpds. at 40-150 degrees C in presence of a formed acid catalyst consisting of a sulphonate gp.- and mercapto gp.-contg. organopolysiloxane (OFP) contg. units of formula (O3/2SiR'SO3)M(x+) (I) and O3/2SiR SH (III). NH4, or a metal with a valency of x = 1-4; R = R . The free valencies of the O atoms attached to Si are taken up by the Si atoms of other gps. (I) and/or (II) and/or by the metal atom-oxygen gps. of crosslinking bridging gps. of formula SiO4/2 (IV) and opt. R''SiO3/2, R'SiO3/2, R'2SiO2/2, AlO3/2, R'AlO2/2, TiO4/2, R'TiO3/2 and R'2TiO2/2 (V). In (V) and (IV), R' = Me or Et; R" = Ph or 2-12C alkyl. The ratio of gps. (I):(III) = (10:1)-(1:10), the ratio of (I):(IV) = (1:3)-(1:20), and the ratio of (IV):(V) = (1:0)-(1:0.5). The required prod. is then isolated.
