Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure high selectively by doping iridium with at least one kind of element selected from among Mn, Co, Fe, Ni, Cu and Ru. SOLUTION: This catalyst contains iridium by 0.3-12wt.%, especially O. 5-7wt.% of the amt. of the carrier material and at least one kind of metal selected from among Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Ru by 1-100wt.%, especially 5-50wt.% of the amt. of the iridium. It is produced by suspending a carrier in water, adding a soln. of salts of the required metals and reducing the salts with a water-soluble reducing agent at 0-100 deg.C. When this catalyst is used, a substd. arom. nitro compd. can be converted into the corresponding arom. amine by hydrogenation with high selectivity without producing a dehalogenated product and other undesirable by-product.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve resistance against carbon monoxide by using alloy grains having the average crystal size of a specific value, and forming an electric conductivity carrier material with carbon black, graphitized carbon black, graphite or activated carbon. SOLUTION: Alloy grains having the average crystal size of 0.5-2 nm are used for this alloy catalyst, e.g. a Pt/Ru alloy catalyst having alloy grains of 2 nm or below has very good CO resistance up to the carbon monoxide concentration of 150 ppm in combustion gas, however the electrochemical activity of the catalyst deteriorates when the grain size becomes below 0.5 nm. The carbon monoxide adsorbed to platinum atoms is brought into contact with ruthenium atoms during the diffusion process on the alloy grains, it is oxidized into carbon dioxide under its existence, and the platinum surface can be effectively regenerated. The ratio of platinum/ruthenium alloy grains is set to the concentration of 10-50 wt.% against the total weight of the alloy catalyst.

SOLUTION: In producing a carbon black having an H content higher than 4,000 ppm and a peak integration ratio of non-conjugated H atoms (1,250-2,000 cm-1) to H atoms of aromatic hydrocarbons and graphitized hydrocarbons (1,000-1,250 cm-1 and 750-1,000 cm-1) lower than 1.22, a liquid material for carbon black and a gaseous material for carbon black are supplied at the same position in a furnace carbon black production process.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platinum carrier catalyst for the anode of a PEM fuel cell having good resistance against poisoning from carbon monoxide by containing platinum and ruthenium crystallite mutually unalloyed and having specific sizes on a fine conductive carrier material. SOLUTION: A fine conductive carrier material made of carbon black, graphitized carbon black, graphite, or activated carbon is dispersed in water. The soluble compound aqueous solution of platinum and/or ruthenium is added to this suspension, it is adjusted to pH 7-9 by an alkaline solution, and a reducing agent containing aldehyde is added at a constant temperature of 50-80 deg.C. Platinum and/or ruthenium is reduced and completely deposited on the material, then are filtered, washed, and dried at 200 deg.C or below. The platinum and ruthenium of two noble metals are mutually unalloyed and highly dispersed on a carrier, and a CO-resistant platinum carrier catalyst having platinum crystallite below 2 nm and ruthenium crystallite below 1 nm is obtained.

Abstract: The prodn. of 2,2'-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propanes (BHPP) comprises reacting the corresp. phenols and carbonyl cpds. at 40-150 degrees C in presence of a formed acid catalyst consisting of a sulphonate gp.- and mercapto gp.-contg. organopolysiloxane (OFP) contg. units of formula (O3/2SiR'SO3)M(x+) (I) and O3/2SiR SH (III). In (I) and (III), R = 1-12C alkylene, 5-8C cycloalkylene or a gp. of formula -(CH2)n-Cyc-(CH2)m- or -(CH2)n-Phe-(CH2)m- (II) (with n, m = 0-6, i.e. the no. of Si- or S-linked CH2 gps.; Cyc = cyclohexylene; Phe = phenylene); M = H, opt. NH4, or a metal with a valency of x = 1-4; R = R . The free valencies of the O atoms attached to Si are taken up by the Si atoms of other gps. (I) and/or (II) and/or by the metal atom-oxygen gps. of crosslinking bridging gps. of formula SiO4/2 (IV) and opt. R''SiO3/2, R'SiO3/2, R'2SiO2/2, AlO3/2, R'AlO2/2, TiO4/2, R'TiO3/2 and R'2TiO2/2 (V). In (V) and (IV), R' = Me or Et; R" = Ph or 2-12C alkyl. The ratio of gps. (I):(III) = (10:1)-(1:10), the ratio of (I):(IV) = (1:3)-(1:20), and the ratio of (IV):(V) = (1:0)-(1:0.5). The required prod. is then isolated.

Abstract: Platinum alloy catalyst contains 40-60 atom % Pt, 10-20 atom % Rh and 20-50 atom % Fe in the form of alloying particles of average diameter of less than 10 nm on an electrically conducting carbon support. An Independent claim is also included for the production of a Pt alloy catalyst comprising: (a) preparing a support suspension of the carbon support in water; (b) heating the suspension to the boiling point and maintaining at that temperature during the following steps; (c) adding aqueous solutions of hexachloroplatinic acid and rhodium chloride and also iron nitrate; precipitating out Pt, Rh and Fe by slowly adding caustic soda; (e) reducing the precipitated out compounds by adding an aqueous reductant; (f) removing the catalyst from the aqueous phase of the suspension; (g) drying the catalyst; (h) calcining the catalyst in an inert atmosphere at 700-1000o C for 0.5-2 hours; and (i) reducing the temperature from 700 to 500o C for a further 0.5-2 hours.
