Abstract:
Disclosed herein are polymer blends comprising at least one ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer and two different polyolefins which can be homopolymers. The ethylene/α- olefin interpolymers are block copolymers comprising at least a hard block and at least a soft block. In some embodiments, the ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer can function as a compatibilizer between the two polyolefins which may not be otherwise compatible. Methods of making the polymer blends and molded articles made from the polymer blends are also described.
Abstract:
A reinforced composite article and method for making the same. The article and method employ at least one elongated member as a reinforcement phase. Specific elongated members are multiple layer structures wherein the layers are each polyolefinic (e.g., at least one of the layers may be a propylene-based polymer, such as a propylene-ethylene copolymer, an isotactic polypropylene homopolymer, or a combination thereof). Optionally, at least one of the layers may include a non-migratory process aid or surface modifier agent. An intermediate form including the elongated member may made and processed (for example, with a step of consolidation) to form a composite article.
Abstract:
A prepolymer or elastomer is the reaction product of reactants (a) at least one polyester polyol or fatty acid derived polyol which is the reaction product of at least one initiator and a mixture of fatty acids or derivatives of fatty acids comprising at least about 45 weight percent monounsaturated fatty acids or derivatives thereof, (b) optionally, at least one polyol which is different from the polyol of (a); and (c) at least one isocyanate compound (herein after isocyanate) having an average of at least about 1.8 isocyanate groups per molecule. A process comprises admixing reactants (a) at least one polyol composition comprising the fatty acid derived polyol which is the reaction product of at least one initiator and a mixture of fatty acids or derivatives of fatty acids comprising at least about any of 45 weight percent monounsaturated fatty acids or derivatives thereof; and (b) at least one isocyanate having an average functionality of at least about 1.8 under reaction conditions to form a reaction product which is an elastomer or prepolymer is formed therefrom. An article, coating or thermoplastic polyurethane comprises the elastomer is formed from the prepolymer of or using the process of the invention.
Abstract:
Heavy weight stretch fabrics comprising ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer are described. The fabric often has a weight of at least 10 ounces per square yard measured according to ASTM 3776 and has a stretch of at least 10 percent measured according to ASTM D3107. These fabrics exhibit excellent chemical resistance (for example chlorine or caustic resistance) and durability, that is they retain their shape and feel over repeated exposure to processing conditions, such as stone-washing, dye-stripping, PET-dyeing and the like, and industrial laundry conditions.
Abstract:
Compositions having good wrinkle resistance and other properties when made into garments that can be made from an ethylene multi-block copolymer. The resulting fabrics and garments often have good chemical resistance, heat-resistances, and are dimensionally stable.
Abstract:
A fiber is obtainable from or comprises an ethylene/α-olefm interpolymer characterized by an elastic recovery, Re, in percent at 300 percent strain and (1) cycle and a density, d, in grams/cubic centimeter, wherein the elastic recovery and the density satisfy the following relationship: Re >1481-1629(d). Such interpolymer can also be characterized by other properties. The fibers made therefrom have a relatively high elastic recovery and a relatively low coefficient of friction. The fibers can be cross-linked, if desired. Woven or non-woven fabrics can be made from such fibers.
Abstract:
Improved microlayer structures and methods typically employing at least (4) stacked layers of polymers (e.g., including alternating layers of components A and B), such as that obtained by coextrusion. The layers each have a thickness of less than about (50) microns. One optional approach involves forming an intermediate form that includes at least one elongated member made from the plurality of layers, from which a shaped composite article may be made.
Abstract:
Improved cone dyed yarns have now been discovered which have a balanced combination of desirable properties including less broken fibers and substantially uniform color. These cone dyed yarns comprise one or more elastic fibers and hard fibers, wherein the elastic fibers comprise the reaction product of at least one ethylene olefin block polymer and at least one crosslinking agent.

Abstract:
Knit fabric compositions have now been discovered that often have a balanced combination of desirable properties. Said fabric compositions comprise fibers of olefin block interpolymers or homogeneous branched ethylene polymers or a combination thereof. The fibers are characterized by an amount of crosslinking such that the fabric is capable of being molded.
