    Abstract: In a magnetic recording carrier having two magnetic layers, in which the upper layer contains a cobalt-containing FeOx (x = 1.33 to 1.5) magnetic pigment with a higher BET value than that of the lower layer magnetic pigment, the thicknesses of the upper and lower layers (3, 2) are 3.1-5 mu m and 1.1-3 mu m, respectively. Preferably, the coercive field strengths of the upper and lower layers are 55-60 kA/m and 50-55 kA/m respectively or, when the magnetic pigment of the lower layer is CrO2, the coercive field strength of the lower layer is 40-55 kA/m.

    Abstract: Digital recording procedures wherein the recording support is not exposed to an obliterating magnetic field before recording are known in recent times. Such recording supports must therefore have good rewrite capability. It has been found that said requirement is fulfilled by two-layered recording supports, wherein the top layer contains a metal or metal alloy powder and has a density of less than 0.3 mu m and wherein the bottom layer contains a magnetic pigment. The coercitive force of the bottom layer has at the most two thirds the coercitive force of the top layer and the remanent magnetization of the bottom layer is at least 32 kA/m.
