    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process by which a relatively large quantity of a magnetic dispersion can be economically prepared and a magnetic coating having good magnetic values and magnetic characteristics can be realized. SOLUTION: This process consists of producing a magnetic dispersion for a magnetic-particle-containing magnetic coating having a coercive force of above 120 kA/m, a relative remanence induction Mr/Mn of at least about 0.9, and an orientation rate of at least 2.7 by means of a single axis blade type kneader having a shaft (W) which revolves within a machine frame having a machine frame wall (K), simultaneously vibrates in the axial direction, and has the function of kneading a thermoplastic resin binder and a magnetic particle mixture in a solvent, wherein (a) the radial shear gradient in the gap (s) between the tip of the kneading blade and the machine frame wall (K) is about 150 to about 1,600, particularly, about 500 to about 1,400 1/sec, and (b) the peripheral speed of the kneading blade is about 20 to about 80, particularly, about 35 to about 60 cm/sec. The thus produced magnetic dispersion can be used to produce an information recording medium and an image recording medium having a particularly high recording and memory speed.

SOLUTION: A device 1 for processing in a number of processing steps a magnetic tape cut to the final width includes at least two substantially slip-free tape conveyors 8, 13, 14, the tape conveyors applying an average tape tension of 2N per 1 inch (25.4 mm) of tape width in order to avoid the permanent deformation of tape material, with the result that the tape tension is kept at a value that is within the elastic limit of the tape material and almost 20% lower than the maximum allowable tensile force of the tape material.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high wear-resistant properties and magnetic properties by providing a layer containing respectively specific rates of a polymer with a specific melt point or a softening temperature and a polymer with a specific minimum melt point or a specific minimum softening temperature, and also providing another layer containing another polymer on a base. SOLUTION: A base II and a layer III containing 75-90wt.% of a polymer IV with a melt point or a softening temperature of 100-160 deg.C and 10-25wt.% of a polymer V with a melt point or a softening temperature of minimum 90 deg.C are provided on a medium I. In addition, another layer VI containing polymer VII is provided. A monomer accounting for the most part of the polymer IV is an olefinic unsaturated hydrocarbon and the polymer V is polyurethane polyacrylate, polymethcrylate, polyacrylamide or vinyl polymer. The content of the polymer VII is upto 100wt.% for the layer VI and the polymer VII is polyacrylate, polymethacrylate, polyacrylamide or vinyl polymer.
