    Abstract: A method and arrangement for enabling access to a home device in a private network from a remote device located outside the private network. The private network includes a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network. A session invite message is sent from the remote device to the multimedia gateway. In response, connection parameters of a residential gateway in the private network are sent to the remote device, which are associated with the selected home device if a home device identification was included in the received message, or with a proxy function in the multimedia gateway capable of providing home device information, if no such identification was included in the received message. In this way, home devices in the private network can be easily and safely accessed remotely.

    Abstract: A main-remote radio base station system includes plural remote radio units. Fiber costs are significantly reduced using a single optical fiber that communicates information between the main unit and the remote units connected in a series configuration. Information from the main unit is sent over a first fiber path to the remote units so that the same information is transmitted over the radio interface by the remote units at substantially the same time. The main unit receives the same information from each of the remote units over a second fiber path at substantially the same time. Delay associated with each remote unit is compensated for by advancing a time when information is sent to each remote unit. A data distribution approach over a single fiber avoids the expense of separate fiber couplings between the main unit and each RRU. That approach also avoids the expense of WDM technology including lasers, filters, and OADMs as well as the logistical overhead needed to keep track of different wavelength dependent devices.

    Abstract: A system and method are described for integrating a fiber optic fixed access network and a fiber optic radio access network. At least one radio unit transmits and receives communications with at least one mobile unit. A first multiplexer transmits and receives the communications with the at least one radio unit and fixed access communications with at least one fixed access subscriber. The first multiplexer is connected to each of the at least one radio unit and to each of the at least one fixed access subscriber using fiber optic connections. Each of the at least one radio unit transmits and receives the communications with the first multiplexer using a wavelength that is different for each of the at least one radio unit and different from that used to transmit and receive the fixed access communications from the at least one fixed access subscriber. The communications and the fixed access communications are transmitted and received together between the first multiplexer and a second multiplexer through the fiber optic fixed access network using the different wavelengths.

    Abstract: A method and arrangement in a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network, for providing access to multimedia services for communication devices connected to a private network. The multimedia gateway may include a device database, a communication unit and a logic unit. A service identity is associated with the multimedia gateway and is valid in the multimedia service network. When a session request is received, a session is established on behalf of at least one device in the private network using said service identity and capabilities of said at least one device. Thereby, no individual service identity is necessary for the selected device(s). If the session request is a session invitation of an incoming request, said at least one device is selected based on capability requirements for the session.
