Abstract:
The invention provides a traction control system (10) that reduces torque on a slipping, spinning wheel (12, 13, 14, 15) by detecting when a wheel is slipping and spinning and then reducing the torque applied to the slipping wheel by decreasing the hydraulic motor (18, 19, 20, 21) displacement. The system responds to the velocity of an individual wheel relative to the other wheels.
Abstract:
This invention concerns novel, unsymmetrically protected, telechelically functionalized linear and star or multi-arm polymers, their optionally hydrogenated analogues, the polymers produced by selective removal of the protecting groups, the segmented block polymers produced by further reaction of these selectively deprotected polymers with selected comonomers, and the processes to prepare these polymers.
Abstract:
The invention provides a shaker with a set or primary eccentric weights (30, 31) and secondary eccentric weights (44, 45). The invention rotates the primary and secondary eccentric weights at the same speed, but may on the fly change the rotational phase between the primary and secondary eccentric weights, causing an on the fly change of amplitude of the inventive shaker.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A process for producing dispersions of atmospherically stable, coated alkali metal particles and atmospherically stable, coated alkali metal powders by agitating a mixture of molten alkali metal in a hydrocarbon oil at dispersion speeds, optionally in the presence of a dispersing agent, contacting the molten alkali metal-hydrocarbon oil dispersion, above or below the surface of the dispersion, with up to 3 weight percent anhydrous carbon dioxide while agitating the dispersion for at least 1 minute. The dispersion in oil can be used directly in chemical reactions. The bulk of the oil can be removed from the dispersions to produce oil wet particles, the oil wet particles can be washed with a low boiling hydrocarbon to produce hydrocarbon wet particles which can be dried to produce atmospherically stable powders of coated metal particles. The dispersed particles in oil, the oil wet particles, the hydrocarbon wet particles and the atmospherically stable powders can each be used in chemical reactions. After washing and drying, the process produces lithium powders having a surface coating composition containing 0.1-0.3 atom percent lithium, 0.3-0.4 atom percent carbon, and 0.3-0.5 atom percent oxygen. The products of the invention may be used to synthesize organometallic compounds having low color and low soluble inorganic chloride levels.
Abstract:
Protected functional initiators have been demonstrated to polymerize dienes and alkenyl substituted aromatics. The resultant living anions were linked with a coupling agent, such as divinylbenzene or tin tetrachloride, to afford a protected functionalized star polymer. Subsequent deprotection afforded a star polymer, with functional groups on the end of each arm of the star. The star polymer could be hydrogenated before or after removal of the protecting groups. The newly liberated functional groups can participate in further polymerization chemistry.
Abstract:
Organometallic amide compositions and processes for preparing the same, for example, by: reacting an alkali metal, alkali metal hydride, or alkali metal amide with a substituted amine in the absence of an electron carrier; reacting an alkali metal with a substituted amine in the presence of an electron carrier in a hydrocarbon solvent; distilling a composition which includes an alkali metal amide and a reduced electron carrier to recover the alkali metal amide; reacting an alkali metal with a substituted amine in the presence of an alkyl halide; and reacting a substituted amine capable of reacting with an alkali metal to form a hydrocarbon insoluble alkali metal amide with an alkali metal in the presence of a substituted amine capable of reacting with an alkali metal to form a hydrocarbon soluble alkali metal amide.
Abstract:
The antiwear properties of synthetic ester lubricants intended for use at high temperatures (150 DEG C to 350 DEG C) are improved by adding to the lubricants a hydrocarbon insoluble, synthetic ester soluble, aryl diphosphate ester composition containing a major amount of an aryl diphosphate ester of formula (I) wherein Ar is unsubstituted or alkyl (C1-C12) substituted arylene and R is unsubstituted or alkyl (C1-C12) substituted aryl.
Abstract:
The lubricity (anti-wear properties) of hydrocarbon fuels, oxygenate fuels or mixtures thereof, particularly diesel or aviation fuels having reduced sulphur and/or aromatic content for compliance with regulator requirements, is improved by the addition of a phosphorus ester or esters (phosphates and/or phosphites), or a concentrate containing the ester or esters, having a total acid number of at least 1.0 mg KOH/g. The additives also improve corrosion inhibition.
Abstract:
A herbicidal composition containing from 1 to 4 pounds of clomazone per gallon of formulation and having a clomazone volatility less than fifty percent of that of an emulsifiable concentrate containing four pounds of clomazone per gallon of formulation is prepared by the interfacial reaction of polymethylene polyphenyl isocyanate with a polyfunctional amine selected from ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, 1,6-hexanediamine, and their mixtures in an aqueous phase optionally containing from 0.05 to 0.25 weight percent of a xanthan gum viscosity modifier/stabilizer. Several such formulations and the method of their preparation are described.
