Abstract: An object is to provide a surface treating composition which is capable of depositing a coating having excellent corrosion resistance after further coating on the surface of a metal material such as iron base metal material by using a treating solution which does not contain environmentally harmful components, namely, by using an environmentally less harmful treating solution which had been difficult to obtain in the prior art technology. This object is achieved by a surface treating composition for a metal containing iron and/or zinc comprising the following component (A), component (B), and component (C): (A) a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hf, and Si; (B) a compound containing Y and/or a lanthanoid element; and (c) nitric acid and/or a nitrate compound; wherein the ratio K1 (=B/A) which is a ratio of the total weight concentration B of the Y and/or the lanthanoid element in the component (B) to the total weight concentration A of the element in the component (A) is in the range of 0.05 ‰¤ K1 ‰¤ 50; and the ratio K2 (=C/A) which is a ratio of the total weight concentration C of nitrogen atom in the component (C) calculated in terms of No 3 to the total weight concentration A is in the range of 0.01 ‰¤ K2 ‰¤ 200.

Abstract: An aqueous lubricant for use in plastic working of a metallic material which comprises (A) a water soluble inorganic salt and (B) a wax, wherein the components are dissolved or dispersed in water, and wherein a solid concentration ratio (weight ratio) (B)/(A) is 0.3 to 1.5; and a method for forming a lubricant film, characterized in that a lubricant film is formed b y applying the aqueous lubricant, preferably in a dried weight of 0.5 to 40 g/m2, on the surface of a metallic material having no chemical film formed thereon, followed by drying. The aqueous lubricant preferably further comprises (C) a metal salt of a fatty acid in a solid concentration ratio (C)/(A) of 0.01 to 0.4. The water soluble inorganic salt(A) is preferably selected from among a sulfate, a silicate, a borate, a molybdate and a tungstate. The wax is preferably a natural wax or a synthetic wax which is dispersed in water and has a melting point of 70 to 150 ~. The metal salt of a fatty acid (C) is preferably obtained through reacting a saturated fatty aci d having 12 to 26 carbon atoms with a metal selected from among zinc, calcium, barium, aluminum, magnesium and lithium. The aqueous lubricant can be used f or imparting excellent bubricity with ease to the surface of a metal having no chemical film formed thereon.
