Abstract: An aluminium nitride powder has a crystallite size, determined by powder diffraction and evaluated by the method of Scherrer, of from 40 to 150 nm, a primary particle size of from 0.1 to 0.5 mu m, a BET specific surface area of from 5 to 50 m /g and a degree of whiteness, measured using light of a wavelength of from 400 to 700 nm against barium sulphate AR as whiteness standard, of more than 91 %. To prepare this aluminium nitride powder, metallic aluminium is first melted together with monoammine aluminium chloride [AlCl3(NH3)] in an inert gas atmosphere at temperatures above 125@C and these are allowed to react with one another with evolution of hydrogen. From 8 to 20 g of ammonia per hour per mole of monoammine aluminium chloride are then passed into the aluminium-containing monoammine aluminium chloride melt at temperatures between 250 and 400@C to precipitate aluminium nitride as solid until the aluminium is completely reacted. Finally, the temperature of the melt is raised to above 400@C.

Abstract: 1535711 Phosphine HOECHST AG 4 July 1977 [17 July 1976] 27882/77 Heading C1A In a process for the continuous production of phosphine by reacting yellow phosphorus with an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution in the presence of an alcohol, with the exclusion of oxygen, at 44 to 90 C., the phosphorus and alkali metal hydroxide solution being introduced separately from one another, the reaction is effected in two separate reaction stages, wherein, in the first reaction stage, the alkali metal hydroxide solution and phosphorus are continuously reacted with agitation in a molar ratio of 0.7:1 to 0.9:1, the resulting continuously produced gaseous phosphine is collected, and the resulting liquid phase material containing unreacted phosphorus is concurrently delivered to the second reaction stage; and, in the second reaction stage, the said unreacted phosphorus is reacted with further aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution and the resulting gaseous reaction products are collected separately from the gaseous phosphine collected in the first reaction stage.
