    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a highly efficient filter at a low cost by providing filter materials by forming projected parts on the surface of fibrous or platelike filter substrates and bundling or layering these filter materials. SOLUTION: Fibrous, platelike, rod-like ceramics, glass, etc., are used as filter substrates. Projected parts are formed on the surface of such filter substrates by applying ceramic or glass materials formed into a granular shape or amorphous state to the surface of the filter substrates and fixing the materials to give filter materials. Furthermore, a highly efficient filter is obtained by using such filter materials which bear the projected parts on the surface or depositing a catalyst on the filter materials and bundling or layering such filter materials. Since the filter has voids attributed to the projected parts, the stable function is retained for a long duration.

SOLUTION: The photocatalytic active material for gas phase is manufactured by forming a photocatalyst layer containing the photocatalytic active material and bringing the photocatalyst layer into contact with the liquid containing water or forming the photocatalyst layer containing the photocatalytic active material and a water-retaining material and bringing the photocatalyst layer into contact with the liquid containing the water or putting the photocatalyst layer in an atmosphere containing moisture. In the photocatalytic active material for gas phase, the water content R expressed by formula (I) (Aw is the weight of the moisture in the photocatalyst layer, Ap is the weight of the photocatalytic active material) is >=1 wt.%.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain semiconductor-containing glass having excellent non-linear optical properties by exposing glass-forming gelled solid containing metal element as raw material of compound semiconductor to a gas containing non-metallic element generating compound semiconductor in reacting with said metal element with vitrifying at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:The aimed semiconductor glass is produced by first process; obtaining gelled solid containing metal element as raw material of compound semiconductor vitrifying by heat treatment and second process; exposing said gelled solid to a gas containing non-metallic element generating compound semiconductor in reacting with said metal element after vitrified by heating at 400-1150 deg.C, or with vitrifying by heating at 400-1150 deg.C. Size of contained fine crystal of compound semiconductor is able to be controlled by suitably selecting treating condition for vitrifying of gelled solid and/or treating condition in exposing to gas containing non-metallic element in the second process.
