Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas treatment apparatus and gas treatment filter which are capable of efficiently developing a photocatalytic reaction and are small in size and high in treatment capacity. SOLUTION: The gas treatment unit 1 has a multiplicity of photocatalytic fibers 3 held between metallic filters 2 as air permeable members in a bundled state. Photocatalytic fiber 3 is formed by depositing a photocatelyst having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of a fiber-like guide body having projections on the surface of the light guide body. The gas to be treated flows through the gaps of the many photocatalyst fibers 3 bundled between the metallic filters 2. On the other hand, the UV rays from a UV light 6 are cast to the end faces of the photocatalystic fibers 3 and leaks out to the photocatalyst on the surface of the light guide bodies while propagating in the photocatalytic fibers 3. At this time, the malodorous components, etc., included in the gas are brought into contact with the photocatalyst excited by the UV rays and are decomposed by the photocatalytic reaction.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a efficient filtration action and to effectively fulfill filter purification function utilizing a photocatalytic reaction by forming a filter device of filter material so that one end part in the longitudinal direction is opened and other end part is closed and also size of an opening is formed gradually smaller as nearer approaching the other end part. SOLUTION: An opening part 20 used for the inflow port of material to be filtrated is formed of many long fibrous bodies 11 in one end of the filter device. A bundled convergent part 21 is formed in other end thereof. A part surrounding space part 22 formed in a range from the opening part 20 to the convergent part 21 constitutes a filtration part 23 being a part performing filtration action. Filtration area of the filtration part 23 is made large by this constitution. Further, when space part being the flow path of fluid to be filtrated is formed into a shape which is gradually narrowed as nearer approaching the inner part (tip part), pressure decrease of introduced fluid is supplemented in some degree and pressure difference between respective positions on the inner peripheral face of the filtration part 23 is made small. Therefore, such action effect is obtained that deviation of collection is relaxed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a Sm -containing silicate glass excellent in weather resistance (chemical durability) and capable of exhibiting strong PHB phenomenon with excellent reproducibility through the improvement of f-f transition efficiency. CONSTITUTION:An alumino-silicate glass precursor containing Sm ion is vitrified by subjecting it to a heat treatment in a reducing atmosphere. In this process, the Sm ion is reduced to Sm ion and a Sm ion-containing alumino- silicate glass is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title glass reversibly showing a color corresponding to temperature and change of color in a high temperature range, having excellent heat resistance and weather resistance by adding fine particles comprising a compound (mixed crystal of compound) of CdS, ZnS, etc., to a parent material of glass. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles (mixture of fine particles) comprising one compound selected from CdS, CdSe, ZnS and ZnSe or mixed crystal of plural compounds are added to a parent material of glass consisting essentially of SiO2, etc., to give the objective glass. The objective glass is obtained by forming porous glass comprising dispersed and precipitated one or more colloids selected from CdS, CdSe, ZnS and ZnSe, heating the porous glass in an inert gas atmosphere or in a reducing glass atmosphere at 500-1,300 deg.C to remove pores.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a filter material and reduce the pressure loss of a filter device by specifying a highest value for the length in a shorter direction of a protrusion formed on the surface of a filter base material and binding the filter base material with a material for forming the protrusion through the metalloxane bonding of a metallic oxide. SOLUTION: A gas treatment unit 1 is constituted of metallic filters 2 as an air-permeable member, many pieces of a photocatalytic fiber 3 sandwiched between the metallic filters 2 and a spacer 4 which sets an interval between the metallic filters 2 to prevent a gas to be treated from leaking out of photocatalytic fibers 3. In addition, on both end parts of each of the photocatalytic fibers 3, an ultraviolet light 6 which introduces ultraviolet rays and a reflector 7 which reflects ultraviolet rays are arranged respectively. In this case, a highest value for the length in a shorter direction of the spacer 4 is set to be 1/8-1 to the length in the shorter direction of a filter base material. Further the filter base material and a material for forming the spacer 4 are bound by the metalloxane bonding of a binder film.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a substrate with a superfine particle-contg. thin film which has the absorption of the superfine particles and is free from the influence of interference colors by making the refractive index of the thin film described above and the refractive index of a transparent substrate substantially the same. CONSTITUTION: This substrate is formed by providing the surface of the transparent substrate with the superfine particle-contg. thin film dispersed with the superfine particles in a matrix. The refractive index of the superfine particle-contg. thin film and the refractive index of the transparent substrate are made substantially the same. The superfine particles include the superfine particles of metals or metal oxide, such as metal colloid and zinc oxide superfine particles. The specific surface area of the zinc oxide superfine particles preferably exceeds 60m /g if the zinc oxide superfine particles are used as the superfine particles. The reason lies in that the thin films is made translucent and the transmittance is degraded by scattering if the specific surface area of the zinc oxide superfine particles is /g. The average grain size of the superfine particles is preferably
