PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve reduced office power consumption by, when the number of active user computers in the vicinity of the network printer is large, setting the network printer in a standby state and, when that number is small, powering off the network printer. SOLUTION: A method for managing a first unit and one or more other units connected to the first unit over a network is provided. The method includes (i) detecting, by a management unit, the operating state of the other units positioned within a specific range from the first unit on the basis of the location of each of the first and other units over the network, the operating state including at least an operating state at which a service request is capable of being transmitted to the first unit. The method further includes (ii) transmitting, by the management unit, to the first unit, an instruction to change an operating state of the first unit depending on a number of the other units being in the detected operating state at which the service request is capable of being transmitted. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement flexible and effective security management of display information, in consideration of the attribute of a window to be displayed and a drawing result. SOLUTION: Whenever a drawing command is executed, a computer system having a graphic user interface such as a multi-window system determines, from the logical operation pattern of the drawing command, what kind of information is inherited by a drawing result from the drawing command, preferably without performing a complicated step such as an image process. At the same time, the computer system controls information flow of an image output to a screen by managing labeled area maps which correspond one to one to images on the screen and in a memory. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a large-sized high definition panel merely by adding the change of an extremely small scale to an existing system. SOLUTION: An image display system is provided with a transmitter (PC) 10 for transmitting image data, based on the plotting instruction from an OS or an application and a reception side monitor 40 for displaying the image data received via a monitor cable 39 on a high-definition panel 41. The transmitter 10 is provided with a plot instruction analyzer 20 for detecting an area, where a change is generated on an image by the plotting instruction and calculating the transmission area to be transmitted, on the basis of the detected area and a graphics card 12 for transmitting a packet including the calculated transmission area, which includes the control information of the transmission area in the packet by the form of header data and transmitting it. The reception side monitor 40 is provided with a packet receiver 50, provided with a frame memory for analyzing the header data from the transmitted packet and developing the image data, on the basis of the header data.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which it is impossible to obtain a retrieval result customized according to a need and a situation of a plurality of users, in a method in which websites are retrieved according to a retrieval keyword etc. from a terminal and a retrieval result is ranked and displayed.SOLUTION: An information terminal which acquires information corresponding to a retrieval condition inputted by a retrieval execution user from a server comprises: a retrieval condition input unit in which the retrieval condition is inputted by the retrieval execution user; a communication unit which communicates with another information terminal; an information acquisition unit which transmits a retrieval request based on a communication result with the other information terminal and the retrieval condition, and acquires information which matches the retrieval condition and is customized according to the communication result from the server; and a display unit which displays the acquired information.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and program for constructing safely managed virtual machine execution environment.SOLUTION: After a program into which means for selectively masking a window screen of a virtual machine and a security function are integrated is installed onto a host OS of a user terminal under the authority of an administrator, a program into which a security function that the administrator wants to introduce into the virtual machine and means for releasing the mask are integrated is provided to a user. Once such a situation is created by the administrator, the user who wants to use a virtualized environment cannot but accept installation of a security function desired by the administrator onto the virtual machine.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of the GUI of a multiwindow system. SOLUTION: In a multiwindow system, security levels and positional information (Z-order) in a Z-axis direction on a screen are associated with each other, and a restriction is imposed so that a program that is assigned a low security level cannot become higher than a program that is assigned a high security level in the Z-axis direction. In addition, a restriction is imposed on an information flow via a clipboard and a window message from a higher program to a lower program in the Z-axis direction. The security levels are managed by window units according to the attributes of files to be accessed or documents to be displayed. The display state of each window in the desktop is dynamically controlled depending on the security level of the window on which a user actually performs operation. SOLUTION: A scheduler 344 discriminates whether or not increase in a data quantity caused by revision in an image drawing instruction can be cancelled through merging and changes the image drawing instruction when the increase can be cancelled. A communication controller 40 generates a transmission packet including the merged image drawing instruction by a prescribed data amount or over and transmits the packet to the display device.
