    Abstract: In one embodiment, a system includes a network fabric having a plurality of fabric switches interconnected in the network fabric and a switch controller having logic adapted to configure the network fabric, determine one or more paths through the network fabric between any two hosts connected thereto, and create a source-routing table to store the one or more paths through the network fabric between any two hosts connected thereto. In another embodiment, a method includes receiving or creating a packet using a NIC of a host connected to a network fabric having a plurality of fabric switches interconnected therein, determining a path through the network fabric by consulting a source-routing table stored to the host, storing source-routing information to a packet header for the packet, the source- routing information including the path, and sending the packet to a first device or hop indicated by the path in the source-routing information.

    Abstract: A method for hybrid arrival-occupancy based congestion management includes increasing a recent arrivals counter 502 associated with a data flow from one or more sources in response to receiving a data packet from one of the sources and storing the data packet in a buffer including multiple storage units 500. The method includes: determining if the buffer is congested 504; randomly selecting an occupied unit of the buffer 508; and determining the source of the packet stored in the occupied unit of the buffer 510; generating a congestion notification message 506; sending the congestion notification message to the source of the packet stored in the occupied unit of the buffer if the recent arrivals counter for that source exceeds a threshold value (or has a positive value) and decreasing the recent arrivals counter associated with the source of the packet stored in the occupied unit of the buffer 514; and discarding the congestion notification message if the recent arrivals counter has a zero (or below threshold) value 516. The arrangement serves to provide a fairness for which sources receive congestion notification messages based upon the proportion of the buffer space they are currently using. The checking against a recent arrivals counter serves to avoid over-throttling of sources not currently receiving their fair share of the buffer. There is also described a similar arrangement using culprit data flows. In one embodiment culprit data flows may be those flows which have a positive recent arrivals counter value.

    Abstract: The invention relates to data flow overload management in an Ethernet network, the network comprising nodes connected to define various data flow paths. Data flows from a first, congested path are re-routed to another, uncongested path of the network when an overload condition is detected (see the dashed line in fig. 1B). The data flow overload may be detected on the basis of at least one overload event sent in the network such as a congestion notification, link-level flow control event or a combination of the two. The invention takes advantage of multi-path capability offered by, for example, data centre networks. Re-routing data flows to different paths provides a spatial alternative to the sole temporal reaction (rate reduction mechanism) usually provided in Ethernet networks.

    Abstract: Aspects of the present invention disclose a method and system for troubleshooting. The method includes identifying data sources providing sensor data, including a first group of measurands. The method further includes processors determining that values of a second group of the measurands of a subset of the sensor data (provided by a given data source, comprising a component set) indicates an anomaly. The method further includes determining a third group of the measurands that are root cause candidates of the anomaly. The measurands of the third group are provided by the component set. The method further includes assigning a set of coefficients to respective measurands. Each coefficient is indicative of a comparison result of each measurand with a measurand of the third group. The method further includes determining, using the sets of coefficients, whether a specific subset of the component set can be identified as an anomaly root cause.

    Abstract: IEEE 802.1Q and Enhanced Transmission Selection provide only eight different traffic classes that may be used to control bandwidth in a particular physical connection (or link). Instead of relying only on these eight traffic classes to manage bandwidth, the embodiments discussed herein disclose using an Enhanced Transmission Selection scheduler that permits a network device to set the bandwidth for an individual virtual LAN. Allocating bandwidth in a port based on a virtual LAN ID permits a network device to allocate bandwidth to, e.g., millions of unique virtual LANs. Thus, this technique may increase the granular control of the network fabric and its performance.
