Abstract: A mouse cursor is used to selectively subject an object displayed on a screen (3) to one of a plurality of operations with a minimum number of steps. Positioning the first pointing spot of a multiple point cursor with respect to an object and clicking a mouse button (9a, 9b) designates, for example, the first process, namely, the transfer operation of the object. In response to the clicking of the mouse cursor after the transfer of the cursor, the transfer operation is performed such that the object in the original position is deleted and a designated object appears in the current cursor position. The second position of the multiple cursor is then positioned by clicking the mouse cursor with respect to the object so as to designate the copying operation of the object. In response to the clicking of the button after transferring the cursor, the copying operation is performed such that the designated object appears at the current position.

Abstract: The constraint mode provided by this invention allows a user to move a cursor of a pointing device, such as a mouse cursor, just along lines and curves on a graphics screen. The user can select a point located on lines and curves correctly even though the pointing device is moved quite roughly. The user can also select a point that divides a segment by an arbitrary ratio, or a point that divides the segment into a plurality of equal parts. The method basically comprises the steps of entering a signal for pointing to a position on a display screen and determining a point on the display screen in response to the entered signal. A point is then determined on the graphics object near to that point determined on the display screen. A cursor is thus displayed at the determined point on the graphics object.

Abstract: Apparatus for moving a cursor while constrained on a selected graphics object displayed on a display screen (4) comprises a mouse (6) or similar device for entering a signal for pointing to a position on the display screen (4); means (5) for determining a point on the display screen (4) in response to the signal entered by the mouse (6); means (1,2) for determining a point on the graphics object which is near the point determined by means (5); and means (3) for displaying the cursor at the point determined by means (1,2). Graphics objects can thus be tracked by means of a cursor without requiring the specification of points or directions prior to tracking thereby providing the user with direct control of the movement of a cursor constrained onto graphics object.

Abstract: JA9-90-520 SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HANDLING GRAPHICS OBJECTS Even when a number of graphics objects are interrelated, a graphics object under a geometrical constraint exerted directly or indirectly by another graphics object is redrawn in response to the movement or reshaping of that object. Further, such redrawing can be done in response to a movement or reshaping other than translation, rotation, or scaling. A graphics system comprises a graphics object table that stores, for each graphics object, its identifier and the identifiers of one or more control points defining the graphics object; a control point table that stores, for each control point, its identifier and positional data, said positional data being permitted to be data on the position of the control point relative to a graphics object; and means of updating the graphics object table and the control point table in response to the setting of one or more control points for a new graphics object by the user. These tables are referred to in response to a movement or reshaping of a primary graphics object, and the coordinate values of the affected control points are calculated by using a coordinate calculating unit.
