Abstract: A high resolution positioning sensor having a magnetic field generator, a device connected to the magnetic field generator for concentrating lines of magnetic flux produced by the magnetic field generator, and a magneto resistive element connected to the concentrating device. The magneto resistive element is adapted to change resistive properties as a function of magnetic flux density. A reference position scale is also provided, having a transducer grid with a number of protuberances. Two flux couplers are connected to the magneto resistive element and are arranged out of phase with one another with respect to the protuberances of the transducer grid. These flux couplers modulate flux distribution between the concentrating device and the transducer grid.

Abstract: SERIAL PRINTER WITH LINEAR MOTOR DRIVE A serial line printer uses a linear stepper motor of the variable reluctance type in which the toothed stator bar acts as a guide and support for the print mechanism carrier. Sensor elements movable with the carrier sense the presence of the teeth of the stator bar and generate timing signals usable for controlling operation of the printer and the motion of the carrier. The pitch of the teeth in the stator bar is proportional to the spacing of the print locations in a line of print.

Abstract: ROTARY STEPPER MOTOR AND METHOD OF OPERATION A three phase rotary stepper motor of the variable reluctance type comprises a rotor and an annular stator having three pairs of diametrically opposed stator poles wound with bifilar windings. The stator windings are connected so that opposed poles are energized as a pair having the same polarity. The bifilar winding is connected so that pole pairs are energized with either polarity. A two phase energization scheme is used which causes adjacent poles of two pole pairs to have opposite polarity, while the third pole pair is magnetically neutral. Every three steps of the sequence the magnetically neutral pole pair is magnetized with the reverse polarity.

Abstract: 919,560. Electrical digital-data storage. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. May 19, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 17725/60. Class 106(1). Two data word registers are interlaced, digitby-digit on a track of a magnetic drum and with a register is associated a clock track, A or C, producing timing signals which are used to gate data representing signals to a transducer for recording data in that register. If a binary one is stored in positions Q0 or Q2 of address register 7, one input of AND circuit 9 is energized, for writing, the lines 15 are energized, and the clock pulses generated in transducer 5 from track A are applied to drivers 19, 20. Digital data appears on line 21 and is staticized in an input latch 23 which determines which of the drivers passes current through a coil of writing head 2 and thus in which direction the successive digit positions D1A, D2A ... are magnetically saturated. If binary ones appear in positions Q1 or Q3, then clock pulses from track B are gated through AND circuit 14 in order that data be recorded in digit positions D1C, D2C .... For reading, clock pulses generated elsewhere are gated through AND circuits 11 or 13 for reading from the A or C positions, respectively. Specification 800,273 is referred to.

Abstract: An electromagnetic print hammer comprises a magnetic core structure having a magnetic core with an armature movable between one flux path and another flux path. Means are provided for producing a magnetic flux in said core structure and control windings are energized to switch the flux from said one to said another flux path causing the armature to change position.
