Abstract: A three color gun cathode ray tube has convergence correction signals derived from digital signals stored in a digital data store. The screen of the tube is divided into a plurality of areas and a digital correction signal derived for each area. The system is arranged so that when the three beams are scanning a particular area the digital correction signal associated with that area is read out from the digital store, passed through a digital to analog converter and then applied to the convergence coils of the tube.

Abstract: Mixed color effects in a character graphics display system are achieved by providing font characters comprising several character cells with different patterns which can selectively be read simultaneously to different color registers, thereby determining the color in which each character cell is to be displayed. The system also provides characters comprising only a single character cell which can selectively be directed to any of the color registers. A control system interprets color bits in a control word in accordance with the type of character being accessed.

Abstract: 1,263,779. Phase comparators; magnetic storage apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 13 May, 1969, No. 24317/69. Headings H3A and H3B. A complex signal, e.g. from a magnetic store, having a component which is in phase or in antiphase with a reference signal of the same frequency, and components at other frequencies is fed to a phase detector which samples the complex signal during alternate half-cycles of the reference signal, the duration of the sample period being less than one half-cycle of the reference signal. Antiphase input signals are applied at 11, 12 and gating pulses phase displaced by 180 degrees, Fig. 4b, 4c (not shown), are applied at 13, 14. If the phase is such that the input at 11 is at its positive peak when the gate signal arrives at 13 and the input at 12 is at its positive peak when the gate signal arrives at 14 then T 5 , T 8 conduct and capacitor C charges on its right-hand plate. If the opposite condition occurs, capacitor C charges on its left-hand plate. In order to read out the state of charge of capacitor C, a read-out pulse is applied to 15, and an output appears at 16, 17 having a polarity dependent on that of the charge on C. ' Even subharmonics of the input signal produce equal and opposite charges on capacitor C during each gating period, and thus cancel out, so that their presence has no effect on the operation of the circuit. The two phases of the signal represent logical "O" and "I" states of a thin film magnetic store and superimposed on the signal is a further signal at half the frequency due to capacitive noise signals, and possible noise signals.

Abstract: An electromagnetic lateral convergence assembly includes a generally-annular, planar magnetic core (optionally found as a laminate) having integral pole pieces extending toward the center of the annulus. Electrical coils are mounted on selected pole pieces for producing a convergence-compensating magnetic field within the center of the annulus. The coils are secured to a printed circuit board to hold the core in spaced parallel relationship to the board. Optionally a purity assembly including a planar magnetic core having a number of electrical coils for producing a rotatable, variable, linear field is mounted on the other side of the printed circuit board.
