    Abstract: A color liquid crystal display having chromatic pixels and achromatic pixels, comprises: color filters (12, 14, 16) formed at locations corresponding to said chromatic pixels (13, 15, 17) and having a light transmitting area for predetermined wavelength; and translucent filters (18) formed at locations corresponding to said achromatic pixels (19) and near an outer periphery of locations corresponding to said chromatic pixels so as to be overlapped with said color filters.

    Abstract: A colour liquid crystal display compirses colour filters formed at locations corresponding to chromatic pixels and having a light transmitting area for predetermined wavelength. Translucent filters formed at locations corresponding to achromatic pixels, and near an outer periphery of locations corresponding to the chromatic pixels, are overlapped with the colour filters. A manufacturing method for realizing the above comprises the steps of: forming material constituting translucent filters on a substrate; removing the material constituting the translucent filters at locations corresponding to pixels on which colour filters are to be formed from the substrate; and forming the material constituting the colour filters at colour filter locations corresponding to pixels on which the colour filters are to be formed on the substrate and at locations which are near the colour filter locations so as to be overlapped with the material constituting the translucent filters.

    Abstract: A method is provided for correcting defects in colour filters containing coloured pixels. The method comprises: applying a negative type photosensitive resin, in which a pigment is dispersed, to the colour pixels that have defects; exposing the photosensitive resin to light through the coloured pixels having the defect; and developing the exposed photosensitive resin. If the defects occur in just one colour of pixel then the pigment dispersed in the resin is of that particular colour. However, if the defects spread over several pixels of different colours then a grey pigment is dispersed in the resin.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a color liquid crystal display device having a plurality of pixels, in which conductive films are arranged at regions corresponding to the respective pixels, a light-shielding conductive layer is connected to the conductive films and extends in a region between the pixels, and color filters are formed on the conductive films. In the method of manufacturing such color liquid crystal display device, a light-shielding conductive layer is formed on a substrate, part of the light-shielding layer corresponding to a pixel for which a filter is to be formed is removed from the substrate on which the light-shielding layer is formed and simultaneously the light-shielding layer is partially removed so that portions thereof corresponding to at least pixels having different colors are electrically insulated from each other, a conductive film is formed at a portion corresponding to the pixel for which the filter is to be formed, and films having colors corresponding to those of the respective pixels are formed on the surface of the conductive film.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device (DU) comprising a plurality of display units each having n (where n is a positive integer) pixels (picture elements) (T1, T2, T3, T4 : S1, S2, S3), each of which pixels can be made either to transmit or to receive light, means for applying a voltage to the region of the liquid crystal (3) adjacent to each pixel in order to control the transmission characteristic of each pixel and a light transmission factor control layer (31, 32, 33, 34) for controlling the light transmission factor of each pixel. According to the invention, the display device is characterised in that the ratios between the light transmission factors of the pixels in each display unit are 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 .
