Abstract:
A method and apparatus for triggering procedures to handover an ongoing communication session between a mobile station (MS) and a correspondent node (CoN) from via a first network of a first type to via a second network of a different type. Communication session continuity is maintained by transferring communication session context information when a handover is imminent from a network component in a first network path to a network component in a second network path, and by forwarding downlink and uplink signals via the network components in both the first and second network paths until the ongoing communication session can be established via the second network path. The context information includes the session communication parameters, such that the second network path can allocate resources and establish routing between the MS and the CoN.
Abstract:
This invention relates to wireless local area networks (WLANs), and the interoperability of networks of different types or conforming to different standards, and to methods and apparatus to allow a multimode wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), which is able to operate in more than one type of network, to handover from one network type to another without adversely affecting service, utilizing a mechanism and information flows implemented in a new protocol stack.
Abstract:
A method for improving the reliability of a channel quality indicator (CQI) (102, 106 Fig. 3) message in a wireless communications network begins with receipt of the CQI message. The CQI message is then decoded, and a decision metric value for each symbol in the CQI message is computed. A largest decision metric value and a second largest decision metric value for the CQI message are determined. The reliability of the CQI message can be determined by comparing the two largest decision metric values. This method may be applicable to high-speed downlink packet access in time division duplex, frequency division duplex, or other modes of transmission.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a TFI to be transmitted in a PAN field without using explicit bits to identify a TBF.SOLUTION: There is provided a method comprising: generating a PAN check sequence (PCS) based on a piggybacked acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (PAN) field; masking a subset of PCS bits with a temporary flow identity (TFI) of a TBF to which the PAN field is addressed to generate a masked PCS; and generating a data block including a header, a data part, the PAN field and the masked PCS.
Abstract:
A mesh network including at least one channel master (CM) and a plurality of mesh points (MPs). The CM sends a channel change intention message to at least one of the MPs indicating the CM's intention to change from a first channel to a second channel. Upon reception of the channel change intention message, the at least one MP determines whether to switch from the first channel to the second channel. The at least one MP sends a channel change response message to the CM. The CM then determines whether to change from the first channel to the second channel based on the channel change response message. The channel change intention message may indicate a change of mode, a change of bandwidth or a change of a number of channels. The channel change intention message may indicate the timing of the channel change.
Abstract:
Several methods are provided for communicating emergency call capability information between a station and an access point (AP) in a wireless local area network. The methods include advertising by the AP of its emergency call capabilities and announcing by the station of its emergency call capabilities. The AP can advertise its emergency call capabilities in a beacon frame, a probe response frame, a reassociation response frame, or a reauthentication response frame. The station can announce its emergency call capabilities in an association request frame, a reassociation request frame, an authentication request frame, or a reauthentication request frame.
Abstract:
A method and system for autonomous channel coordination for a wireless distribution system (WDS) are disclosed. A wireless communication system includes a plurality of access points (APs) and the APs communicate each other via a WDS. A coordinated channel group (CCG) of a plurality of member APs is established. The member APs of the CCG camp on a WDS channel used for the WDS among the member APs of the CCG. One AP among the member APs of the CCG is designated as a master AP. The master AP coordinates with other member APs of the CCG for selecting and configuring the WDS channel for the CCG and addition and deletion of member APs. By allowing APs to define a CCG, changes of the WDS channel are performed autonomously while maintaining connectivity.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to a method and system for transferring wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU)-specific information to support enhanced uplink (EU) operation in a wireless communication system. A radio network controller (RNC) obtains WTRU-specific information, and transfers the WTRU-specific information to the Node-Bs. Each Node-B is configured to schedule uplink transmissions from a WTRU and utilizes the WTRU-specific information in operation of EU transmissions.
Abstract:
A method for handover a mobile unit (UE) from a first base station (BS1) to a second base station (BS2) in a wireless communication systems employing smart antenna technology. Following trigger events of a handover, the mobile station generates a physical signal sounding pulse transmitted by an isotropic antenna. The sounding pulse may consist of a common sequence of symbols or a specific sequence of symbols that uniquely identifies the mobile station. A series of sounding pulses can be sent according to a power ramping procedure until a base station has focused a communications beam toward the mobile. Receiving base stations provide feedback information upon detection of the sounding pulse allowing the mobile unit (UE) and/or base station (BS1-BS4) to form communication beams toward each other. A mapping protocol may also be utilized by the communication system.
Abstract:
A system, components and methods provide controlled transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which both dedicated and shared channels are utilized. A network unit preferably has a receiver (16) for receiving UL user data from WTRUs on UL DCHs and at least one UL SCH and a processor (36) for computing target metrics for UL DCHs based on the reception of signals transmitted by a WTRU on an UL DCH associated with an UL SCH usable by the WTRU. A shared channel target metric generator is provided that is configured to output a respective UL SCH target metric derived from each computed UL DCH target metric.
