Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are described including performing scalable video coding using inter-layer residual prediction. Inter-layer residual prediction in an enhancement layer coding unit, prediction unit, or transform unit may use residual data obtained from a base layer or from a lower enhancement layer. The residual may be subjected to upsample filtering and/or refinement filtering. The upsample or refinement filter coefficients may be predetermined or may be adoptively determined.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide an apparatus comprising a processor to divide a first point cloud data set frame representing a three dimensional space at a first point in time into a matrix of blocks, determine at least one three dimensional (3D) motion vector for at least a subset of blocks in the matrix of blocks, generate a predicted second point cloud data set frame representing a prediction of the three dimensional space at a second point in time by applying the at least one 3D motion vector to the subset of blocks in the matrix of blocks, compare the predicted second point cloud data set frame to a second point cloud data set frame representing a prediction of the three dimensional space at a second point in time to generate a prediction error parameter, and encode the second point cloud data set frame as a function of the first point cloud data set frame and the at least one three dimensional (3D) motion vector when the prediction error factor is beneath an error threshold to produce an encoded second point cloud data set frame. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods may determine, on a per camera basis, an interest level with respect to panoramic video content, identify a subset of cameras in a plurality of cameras for which the interest level is below a threshold, and reduce power consumption in the subset of cameras. Additionally, technology may determine a projection format associated with panoramic video content, identify one or more discontinuous boundaries in the projection format, and modify an encoding scheme associated with the panoramic video content based on the discontinuous boundaries. Moreover, an encoded frame may be assigned to a temporal scalability layer that has a higher priority than a layer to which an asynchronous space warp frame is assigned. Additionally, technology may reduce the encoding complexity of a boundary between an active region and an inactive region in fisheye content.

Abstract: One or more apparatus and method for compressing xvYCC or sRGB color to a narrower color gamut. Embodiments may be utilized in processing images/video image sequences provided in a wide gamut color space for display in standard RGB color space. In further embodiments, an sRGB or xvYCC compliant input is compressed to a gamut narrower than sRGB. Embodiments where a narrow output color gamut lacks a fully-defined 3D color space, semi-fixed-hue gamut compression may be performed by adjusting parameters provided to a fixed-hue compression module capable of mapping 3D color space representations between well-defined gamuts.
