    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the offset resistance and storage stability and to make possible low temp. fixing by adding vinyl polymerizable monomers and vinyl polymn. initiator to a water-base suspension of precursor particles whose core surface is coated with a hydrophilic shell material and polymetizing the monomer component in the precursor particles. CONSTITUTION:Precursor particles are obtd. by coating the core surface by in-situ polymn. with a hydrophilic shell material, for example, a shell material containing amorphous polyester as the main component (reaction in the first stage). At least a vinyl polymerizable monomer and a vinyl polymn. initiator are added to a water-base suspension of the precursor particles so that the monomer and initiator are absorbed in the precursor particles. Then, the monomer component in precursor particles is polymerized by seed polymn. method (reaction in the second stage). Namely, a polymerizable compsn. is prepared by mixing 69 pts.wt. of styrene, 31 pts.wt. of 2- ethylhexylacrylate, etc., and heated to effect the reaction for the first polymn. to obtain the precursor as seed particles. Then 13 pts.wt. of styrene is added to the water-base suspension of the precursor and the second polymn. is performed to obtain the capsule toner.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain good cleaning property with a blade and to stably obtain sharp images many times without fog by removing a solvent to make the surface of toner particles into an irregular rough state. CONSTITUTION:A polymerizable compsn. containing at least polymerizable monomers, coloring agent, and material for an outer shell is suspended in a dispersion medium and polymerized to produce a capsule toner for thermocompression fixing. The toner consists of a hot-melt core material and an outer shell which covers the surface of the core material. In this case, a solvent which is inactive for polymn. is preliminarily incorporated into the polymerizable compsn. The solvent is removed while the polymerizable monomer is polymerized, or after the solvent is absorbed by the capsule particles obtd. by polymn. and then the solvent is removed. Thus, the surface of the toner particle is made in a rough and irregular state. Namely, in the production of the capsule toner by in situ polymn. of polymerizable compsn. containing an org. solvent in a dispersion medium, the solvent is removed while the polymn. of the polymerizable monomer is performed so that the surface of the toner is made rough.
