Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of a casting mold by constituting a binder of a resin component consisting of a specific resol type resin alone or mixture composed of said resin and furan resin, etc. and a resin component selected from a prescribed phenolic resin, etc. CONSTITUTION:The resol type resin is obtd. by bringing the un-substd. or substd. monovalent or divalnet phenol compd. alone or the mixture composed of >=2 kinds thereof and aldehyde having >=1.3 molar ratio thereto into condensation reaction. Such resol type resin alone or the mixture composed of said resin and furan resin or the co-condensation product thereof is used as one resin component. The other resin component is then selected from resol type, novolak type phenolic resins, etc. Both components are so mixed so as to satisfy formula [I] to constitute the binder in this case. The initial strength of the casting mold is improved and the productivity of the casting mold is improved by the above-mentioned method.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To extend the pot life of system sand and to decrease the stickers to a metallic mold by using a compd. contg. >=2 epoxy groups in a molecule as a binder for a casting mold. CONSTITUTION:The compd. contg. >=2 epoxy groups in a binder is used as an essential component. The compd. having the epoxy groups includes independent compds. such as phenol novolak type epoxy resin and resol novolak type epoxy resin expressed by formulas I, II or a mixture composed of >=2 kinds thereof or the compd. contg. said compds. The pot life of the system sand for the casting mold is extended and the stickers to the metallic mold is decreased if the binder of the compsn. essentially consisting of the above-mentioned compd. is used. In formula I, R is a hydrocarbon group of 1-12C, X is H or methyl group and in formula II, X is -CH2O- or -CH2OCO-.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the curing speed, strength, etc. of a casting mold by forming a compd. having >=1 aldehyde groups in a molecule of a saccharide, etc. then subjecting the compd. to the reaction with an acid-setting resin, etc. CONSTITUTION:The saccharide such as glucose and starch are oxidized by using an oxidizing agent such as periodic acid or lead chromate to form the compd. contg. >=1 aldehyde groups having high reactivity in the molecule. Such compd. is mixed with or brought into reaction with the acid-setting resin at 2-50wt% ratio, by which the binder compsn. for a casting mold is obtd. The curing speed of the casting mold is increased by the incorporation of the aldehyde having high reactivity in the binder curing reaction in the stage of molding when such binder is used. The surface stability and strength are further improved.
