Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for decoding for the purpose of transmission of many programs by deinterleaving information corresponding to a frame by using specified deinterleaving length and decoding inner or outer codes of a program. SOLUTION: Information corresponding to >=1 frame is deinterleaved by using the specified deinterleaving length, at least inner or outer codes of the program are decoded, and an output signal corresponding to the selected one of the program is generated. For example, a multi-program decoder 50 suitably decodes a single program in a given program cluster. The input to the decoder 50 is an F frame set 52 which includes F frames 54-1 to 54-K from clusters 1 to K. Then an F frame from one of clusters 1 to K is supplied to a deinterleaver 60 at a given time.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize transmission of many programs using common error concealment by applying in common an outer code to sub blocks of an encoded bit stream obtained by encoding a bit stream and relating the respective sub blocks to a single outer code block. SOLUTION: Bit streams relating to respective programs are encoded according to specified bit allocation. Then an outer code is applied in common to the sub blocks of subsets of the obtained encoded bit streams and the sub blocks are related to a single outer code block. For example, a code block 60 is shared by four programs for multi-program concealment. Namely, four program sub block 62-1 to 62-4 are included. This example is applied to a cluster 66, which is constituted as five sub clusters 68.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform error prevention which is higher than a program having maximum limit reference within a designated time interval by deciding the limit reference for a part of a bit stream and adopting a different convolutional code or another appropriate technique with respect to respective programs, on the basis of the corresponding limit reference. SOLUTION: A dividing device 14 divides respective bit streams B1 into two classes, i.e., a class 1 bit and a class 2 bit and stores divided bits for each divided bit stream in a buffer 16. The buffer 16 includes individual storage devices for the class 1 bit and the class 2 bit of each bit stream. Next, the classes 1 and 2 are respectively given error prevention on a different level, e.g. by the use of a different convolutional code or via another appropriate technique. The device 14 utilizes limit reference when bit distribution of the bit streams is respectively performed.

SOLUTION: The audio signal coding technology employs a first filter bank 204 and a signal adaptive type switching filter bank 202 which has a wavelet filter bank 208. The bank 202 is switched between the banks 204 and 208 in order to filter input signals as a normal function of the signals. The bank 204 is used to filter the normal signal components. The bank 208 is used to filter abnormal signal components (for example, an attack).

Abstract: The invention provides methods and apparatus for processing information, e.g., audio, video or image information, for transmission in a communication system. In an illustrative embodiment, a multiple program coder encodes a bitstream associated each of the programs, in accordance with a specified bit allocation. An outer code encoder receives the encoded bitstreams from the multiple program coder, and jointly applies an outer code, e.g., a CRC code, RS code, BCH code or other type of linear block code, to subblocks of a subset of the resulting encoded bitstreams. The outer code is applied such that subblocks of each of the encoded bitstreams in the subset of the encoded bitstreams are associated with a single outer code block. The number of subblocks associated with a given outer code block may be an integer or non-integer number of code blocks. The invention allows a designated number of program subblocks to share a given outer code block, such that outer code error flags can be generated for smaller groups of bits per program than would otherwise be possible. An inner code encoder may be used to apply an inner code, e.g., a convolutional code, turbo code or trellis coded modulation, to the resulting outer code blocks.

Abstract: The invention provides methods and apparatus for processing information, e.g., audio, video or image information, for transmission in a communication system. In an illustrative embodiment, the value of a single-bit or multiple-bit criticality flag is determined for each of the programs in abet of multiple programs to be transmitted in the system. The information bits for each of the programs are then separated into n classes, where n is greater than or equal to two, based on the values of the criticality flags for the programs. Each of the classes is provided with a different level of error protection, e.g., through the use of different convolutional codes or other suitable techniques. The program or programs having the highest criticality flag values in a given frame or other designated time interval thus have a larger percentage of their information bits assigned to the class that is provided with the highest level of error protection. The assignment of the multiple program bits to the classes, as well as the characteristics of the classes, may be fixed for a designated number of program frames, or dynamic, i.e., permitted to vary from frame to frame.
