    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a vat dye of good quality in high yield, by a method wherein 1-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with an alkaline condensation agent to obtain a reaction product which is then chlorinated directly in a sulfuric acid solvent, and then impurities are removed from the resulting product. CONSTITUTION:1-Aminoanthraquinone is condensed in the presence of dimethylformamide and an oxidizing agent by the action of an alkaline condensation agent. The reaction mixt. is diluted with water or an org. solvent and filtered to obtain a reaction product which is then dissolved in a sulfuric acid solvent. Chlorine gas is passed through the resulting soln. to chlorinate the reaction product. Impurities are removed by adjusting the concentration of sulfuric acid to obtain the desired vat dye of the formula (wherein n is 1, 2). By this process, an after-treatment stage can be deleted in which indanthrone is derived from the condensation product obtd. from 1-aminoanthraquinone by using the alkaline condensation agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain titled high-purity compound useful as an intermediate for anthraquinone and vat dyes and pigments, using a hydrogenation catalyst consiting of palladium or/and platinum. Deposited on an oleophilic carbon carrier. CONSTITUTION:1-Nitroanthraquinone is catalytically hydrogenated by the use of catalyst condtituting of one or two types of noble metals selected from palladium and platinum deposited on an olephilic carbon carrier (nonporous carbon having an linseed oil absorption of 100 parts by vol. or more, preferably 150 parts by vol. or more per 100 parts by wt., of the carbon and a surface area of 20-100m /g), preferably in water or its mixture with an organic slovent as a medium in the presence of a base to give the objective 1-aminoanthraquinone without fear of perhy drogenation.
