Abstract: The process of the present invention error corrects sub-audible data words that have been transmitted over a voice channel. A data word may be transmitted up to three times if an acknowledge is not received by the transmitter. If any of the three possible repeats of the received data word are decodable, an acknowledgment is transmitted. If all three repeats of the data word contain uncorrectable errors, a bitwise majority vote is performed on the three data words. If the result of the majority vote is decodable, an acknowledgement is transmitted to the sender.

Abstract: A radiotelephone system comprised of a radiotelephone-pair suitably intercoupled theretogether to permit transfer of data, such as NAM information, therebetween. A first of the radiotelephone-pair comprises a radiotelephone of conventional construction. A second radiotelephone of the radiotelephone-pair comprises a radiotelephone having circuitry to transmit efficiently an information signal upon a cellular, communication system of increased capacity. The data sequence contained in the first radiotelephone is transferred to the second radiotelephone to permit a communication link to be formed between the second radiotelephone and a cellular, communication network.

Abstract: A portable radiotelephone with an integral voice recognition circuit is disclosed. Control of the voice recognition circuit is achieved with a foldable housing element (104) which, in a closed position, covers an external keypad (110) and control buttons. When the foldable housing element (104) is in an open position, the portable radiotelephone is placed in an off-hook condition, the voioe recognition circuit (432) is activated, and the acoustic transducers (320, 424) are coupled to the voice recognition circuit (432). When the foldable element (104) is in a closed position, the portable radiotelephone is placed in an on-hook condition, the voice recognition circuit (432) is deactivated, and the electroacoustic transducers (320, 424) are coupled to the radiotelephone. A rapid closing and opening of the foldable element (104) results in the voice recognition circuit (432) being deactivated while the portable radiotelephone remains in the off-hook condition.

Abstract: A disposable portable radiotelephone subscriber unit (101) comprises a power supply (255), a transceiver (205, 207) and a controller (215). The power supply (255) has stored therein a predetermined measure of power capacity (281). The transceiver (205, 207) is permitted to operate for a predetermined period of time (405) responsive to the predetermined measure of the power capacity (281). The controller (215) monitors a rate of depletion of the predetermined measure of the power capacity (281). The controller (215) permits operation of the transceiver (205, 207) when the power capacity (281) is being depleted at a desirable rate, thereby decreasing the predetermined period of time (405) that the transceiver (205, 207) is permitted to operate. The controller (215) prevents operation of the transceiver (205, 207) when the power capacity (281) is being depleted at an undesirable rate, thereby prolonging the predetermined period of time (405) that the transceiver (205, 207) is permitted to operate. Alternatively, the power supply (255) may be a memory unit (259) and the power capacity (281) may be calling time (279) or a future electronic date (275).
