Abstract: An intelligent normal force release supervisor including: a processor; and a memory including computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations including: receiving a signal from a dispatching controller that an elevator car and a propulsion system are going to park for a selected period of time; requesting a confirmation from a brake controller to confirm that a brake system of the elevator car and the propulsion system are deployed; receiving the confirmation from the brake controller to confirm that the brake system of the elevator car and the propulsion system are deployed; and transmitting a command to a normal force controller to reduce normal force on wheels of the propulsion system, wherein the normal force controller is configured to actuate a normal force generator to reduce the normal force on the wheels of the propulsion system in response to the command.

Abstract: A belt for an elevator system includes a plurality of tension members arranged along a belt width and extending longitudinally along a length of the belt. Each tension member includes a plurality of basalt fibers to enhance temperature resistance of the tension member. A jacket material at least partially encapsulates the plurality of tension members. An elevator system includes a hoistway, an elevator car located in the hoistway and movable therein, and a belt operably connected to the elevator car to suspend and/or drive the elevator car along the hoistway. The belt includes a plurality of tension members arranged along a belt width and extending longitudinally along a length of the belt. Each tension member includes a plurality of basalt fibers to enhance temperature resistance of the tension member. A jacket material at least partially encapsulates the plurality of tension members.

Abstract: A belted elevator system (10) includes a hoistway (14) and an elevator car (12) suspended in the hoistway (14) via a suspension member (16) and drivable along the hoistway (14). The suspension member (16) is routed over a plurality of sheaves (18). A sheave (18) of the plurality of sheaves includes a shaft (36) defining a central axis of the sheave (18), the sheave (18) rotatable about the central axis. A sheave outer member (38) is operably connected to the shaft (36) and rotatable about the central axis. The sheave outer member (38) includes a sheave outer surface (44) interactive with the suspension member (16). The sheave outer member (38) is formed from a molded plastic material.

Abstract: A servicing device for a belt of an elevator system is provided including a housing and a guide member coupled to the housing. The guide member and the housing are disposed on opposite sides of the belt. At least one reservoir is disposed within the housing. The at least one reservoir contains one or more restoring materials. An applicator is configured to apply the one or more restoring materials to an adjacent surface of the belt. Application of the one or more restoring materials is configured to modify the geometry of the belt such that the modified geometry is substantially identical to the original geometry of the belt.

Abstract: A method of wear detection of a coated belt or rope includes connecting a wear detection unit to one or more monitoring strands and/or cords of a coated belt or rope. The coated belt or rope includes one or more baseline strands and/or cords exhibiting a first change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope and one or more monitoring strands and/or cords exhibiting a second change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope, greater than the first change in electrical resistance. An electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords is measured via the wear detection unit. Using at least the measured electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords, a wear condition of the belt or rope is determined.
