Abstract: An electric vehicle comprises an electric motor; an electronic controller which controls provision of power from a plurality of batteries to the motor; and a throttle input system, which includes a throttle input member, sensors which provide a position of the throttle input member, and voltage supplies operatively coupled to the sensors. The electronic controller operates the electric motor in one of a normal drive mode and a safety drive mode based on indications from the sensors. In the safety drive mode, the electronic controller operates the electric motor to limit a speed of the vehicle to a maximum speed regardless of a desired speed indicated with the throttle input system being greater than the maximum speed.
