    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate communicating encapsulation information for a related mobility protocol type utilized in communicating over a data flow with reduced specific implementation on the policy server to support different mobility protocol types. In this regard, encapsulation information can be transmitted to the policy server from a network gateway such that the policy server can forward the encapsulation information to a serving gateway along with policy rules related to a data flow type. The serving gateway can utilize the encapsulation information to detect and interpret the encapsulated data flow according to the policy rules. In this regard, the serving gateway can provide support (e.g., quality of service support) for the flow. The encapsulation information can relate to a mobility protocol type, an encapsulation header, an indication that encapsulation is required, parameters regarding locating an encapsulation header in a message, and/or the like.

    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate inter-system handover in a wireless communication system. Various aspects described herein provide for handover techniques that enable a target system to be prepared by a mobile device via a source system in order to minimize specific changes required to source system and/or target system. Techniques are described herein in which the radio link of a source system can be utilized to tunnel signaling messages which are in a format understood by a destination node in a target system. Further, fast inter-access handover can be facilitated by establishing a simple generic transmission tunnel between respective network nodes in source and target systems that handle intra-system mobility and providing a Layer 2 (L2) tunneling mechanism over the radio interface of each involved system technology.

    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate Mobile IP home agent (HA) discovery in a wireless communication system. Discovery of a HA for Mobile IP can be conducted as described herein for a mobile terminal located on a network wherein movement of the terminal is managed by a network-based mobility protocol. For example, various aspects described herein can be utilized for discovery of a HA located in a 3GPP network from 3GPP and/or non-3GPP access.     Abstract: Techniques for supporting roaming in wireless communication networks are described. In one design, an access point name (APN) and a preferred roaming protocol for a user equipment (UE) roaming from a home network to a visited network may be obtained. The APN may be associated with a data service requested by the UE. The preferred roaming protocol may be GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP), Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP), Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol (PMIP), etc. A suitable network entity to provide data connectivity for the UE may be determined based on the APN and the preferred roaming protocol. In one design, the network entity may be (i) a packet data network (PDN) gateway in the home network if the preferred roaming protocol is GTP or (ii) a home agent in the home network if the preferred roaming protocol is PMIP or MIP.

    Abstract: Providing for inter-system idle mobility management for independent mobil e networks is described herein. By way of example, registration of multiple mobile IP (MIP) addresses to a mobile device can be utilized to facilitate i nter-system device tracking. An Internet Protocol (IP) home agent that serve s the mobile device can associate the MIPs with a home IP address of the mob ile device. When communication is received for the home address, device pagi ng can be initiated by utilizing at least a plurality of the MIPs bound to t he home address. A mobile device response can provide a current active netwo rk address, and the received communication can be delivered via such active network address. As disclosed herein, the mobile device can switch attachmen t among the networks without signaling such networks, based on the multiple address bindings. Accordingly, significant power reduction can be afforded t o mobile devices in idle mode.
