Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques to partition and allocate the available system resources among cells in a communication system, and to allocate resources in each cell to the terminals for data transmission via the uplink. SOLUTION: In one aspect, adaptive reuse schemes are provided wherein the available system resources may be dynamically and/or adaptively partitioned and allocated to the cells based on a number of factors such as the observed interference levels, loading conditions, system requirements, and so on. A reuse plan is initially defined and may be redefined, to reflect changes in the system. In another aspect, the system resources may be partitioned, such that each cell is allocated a set of channels having different performance levels. In yet another aspect, terminals in each cell are scheduled for data transmission (e.g., based on their priority or the load requirements) and assigned channels, based on their tolerance to interference and the performance of the channel. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatus for scheduling data packet transmissions during optimal channel conditions. SOLUTION: Data packet retransmissions are scheduled for transmission during favorable channel conditions when the target remote station is moving slowly, but are scheduled for periodic transmissions when the target is moving moderately or fast. In another method, long delays for retransmissions in a channel sensitive timing scheme are eliminated. In other methods, a combination of periodic and aperiodic retransmissions are used to achieve the desired frame error rate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
In a communication system wherein packetized data is transmitted to remote stations in a channel sensitive manner, a preamble must be transmitted with each discrete data transmission to the remote station. Method and apparatus are presented herein for generating an optimized preamble structure for use with transmissions of packetized data. An optimized preamble structure is one that is easily detectable and decodable, yet occupies a small fractional overhead of the entire transmission to the remote station. Information that needs to be carried bz a preamble are used to create a basic structural unit, which is then redundantly permuted.
Abstract:
The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus for reducing peak to average ratio in a system using auxiliary pilot channels as described in the TIA/EIA TR45.5 "cdma2000 ITU-R RTT Candidate Submission" to the ITU for consideration in the third generation wireless communication systems. A first method proposed in the present invention to deal with the above stated problem is to alter the phase of the auxiliary pilot channels to reduce to prevent the auxiliary pilot channels from adding constructively. A second method proposed in the present invention to deal with the above stated problem is to gate out the portion of the auxiliary pilot channels that add constructively. The present invention also proposes a novel demodulator design for receiving signals using the modified auxiliary pilot signals.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Techniques to adjust the setpoint of a power control loop in a wireless communication system. The setpoint may be adjusted based on frame status indicative of erased/good decoded frames, one or more (typically soft) metrics indicative of the confidence in the decoded results, power surplus/deficit indicative of the difference between the received signal quality and the setpoint and a threshold Eb/Nt needed for the desired level of performance, or a combination thereof. The metrics include one of a re-encoded power metric and a modified Yamamoto metric. The setpoint may be adjusted in different manners and/or by different amounts depending on the above-noted factors. The techniques may be employed for forward and/or reverse links in CDMA systems.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for improving the feedback of channel information to a serving base station, which provides accuracy and reliability of such information. The process determines the received link quality indicators using historical information of the previously received indicators. The method may be applied to full link quality indicators, differential indicators, and/or a combination of both.
Abstract:
A method of modifying gain tables for the reverse-link communications in a cdma2000 wireless communication network includes the steps of estimating the velocity of a mobile station for a given frame error rate (FER) and data rate, and providing three gains to choose between based on the estimated velocity in order to specify a reverse-link transmit power level. The velocity estimation may be performed using a level crossing technique, a covariance approximation technique, or a Doppler spectrum estimation technique.
