In some aspects, a user equipment may determine channel state information for a communication link, wherein the channel state information is based at least in part on a linear combination associated with a plurality of beams of the communication link, wherein a first set of beams used for a first subband, of a plurality of subbands of the communication link, is different than a second set of beams used for a second subband of the plurality of subbands, and wherein the plurality of beams includes the first set of beams and the second set of beams; and transmit the channel state information.     Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In one aspect, the described techniques provide for identifying interference signals on multiple layers or resources and determining whether the interference signals transmitted on a particular layer or resource were precoded using linear precoding (LP) or NLP. In this aspect, a receiving device may equalize signals received from a transmitting device (e. g., filter out interference signals) based on determining whether the interference signals were precoded using a first type of precoding (e. g., linear precoding (LP)) or a second type of precoding (e. g., NLP). In another aspect, the described techniques provide for performing interference measurements on signals precoded using NLP based on categorizing interference resources as being precoded using LP or NLP. In this aspect, a receiving device may perform and report measurements differently for interference signals precoded using LP and interference signals precoded using NLP.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that support beam failure determination based on a dynamic range of transmission power ratios between two reference signals (e.g., between a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) and a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)). A wireless device may identify the dynamic range of transmission power ratios that may be used by a base station (e.g., via indications of maximum and minimum transmission power ratios, indications of one or more offsets from some average transmission power ratio, etc. sent from the base station). The wireless device may use the identified dynamic range of transmission power ratios, along with a CSI-RS measurement, to determine a range of hypothetical block error rates (BLERs). Values within the range of hypothetical BLERs may be compared to a threshold in order to determine a beam failure status (e.g., a beam failure).

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In wireless systems supporting multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) transmissions, devices may implement beam-forming to improve reliability of communications. A user equipment (UE) may select a set of beams, and corresponding beam indices, for communication based on reference signals received from a base station. The UE may determine values corresponding to each of the beam indices using a scalable set of tables. For example, the UE may select a subset of the tables based on the number of selected beams, and may determine the values based on these tables. In this way, the UE may efficiently store sets of tables for multiple different configurations. The UE may sum the corresponding values to obtain a combination index value, and may transmit the combination index value to the base station. The base station may determine the selected beams based on this combination index value.

    Abstract: Some wireless communication networks may improve communication reliability and/or throughput using multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) schemes. MIMO operation may in turn be supported by the use of channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS), which may allow communicating devices to estimate and leverage multipath channel conditions. However, the signaling used to support such communications may consume significant resources. In accordance with the described techniques, a user equipment (UE) may identify non-zero-power beams based on received CSI-RS. The non-zero-power beams may contribute to the final precoding vector. Rather than transmitting beam coefficients relating to zero-power beams, the UE may instead indicate a presence of these zero-power beams to the base station (e.g., by indicating a number of non-zero-power beams). Such techniques may reduce overhead of the communications or otherwise benefit the system.
