Abstract: Communication using a radio access network RAN (404) including a primary cell (406) for license spectrum access and a secondary cell (408) for unlicensed spectrum access may be improved to provide optimal performance while considering characteristics of the primary cell (406) and the secondary cell (408). The apparatus may be a core network entity (410). The core network entity (410) is connected to a RAN (404) including a primary cell (406) utilizing a licensed spectrum and a secondary cell (408) utilizing an unlicensed spectrum. The core network entity (410) determines an authorization for data traffic to be offloaded to the secondary cell (408) based on data traffic characteristics. The core network (410) transmits an indication of the authorization to the RAN (404).

Abstract: The disclosure provides a mechanism where a user equipment (UE) may communicate with a neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE by utilizing the UE's neighbor UE as a relay for the communication between the UE and the neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE. In an aspect, the first UE receives a discovery message from a second UE, the discovery message including information about 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE determines to communicate with a third UE based on the discovery message, the third UE being one of the 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE requests the second UE to operate as a relay for communication between the first UE and the third UE. The first UE communicates with the third UE through the second UE.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a mechanism to enable interworking between fifth generation system (5GS) network slicing and evolved packet core (EPC) connectivity. In an example, techniques are provided for existing packet data unit (PDU) sessions that provide connectivity to a network slice from a set of network slices. Connectivity to the network slice is in response to a user equipment (UE), that uses network slices, moving between a 5G network and a 4G network. The existing PDU sessions are connected to a dedicated EPC core network that supports the same services provided by the network slice.
