A periodic electrostatic focusing electrode system for a travelling- wave tube or as shown, for a klystron, comprises a plurality of spaced high potential electrodes 53 with intervening groups of electrodes which are graded in potential, Fig. 5 (not shown), or, as shown, intervening double conical electrodes 51 in order to produce at the boundary of the beam a parabolic potential variation in each half-period which approximates in form to the variationthat ideally exists in an electron flow of infinite width between a pair of grids at maximum and minimum potentials. The electron gun can be of the convergent flow-type as shown, or of the parallel flow type, Fig. 11 (not shown). Electrodes 51, 53 may have central grids. End discs 59 on electrodes 51 form R.F. chokes with the electrodes 53 and flanges 58 on ceramic envelope discs 55. The resonators 27, 31 have R.F. chokes formed by ceramic rings 61 and flanged discs 63, 65 or, alternatively, circumferential rings, Fig. 11 (not shown).

Abstract: The display device is of the kind having within an evacuated envelope at least one electron beam guide (30, 32) across one end of which extends a line cathode (42) which generates at least one electron beam directed into the guide for eventual deflection towards cathodoluminescent screen on a front wall of the envelope. A pair of parallel modulation electrodes (44a, 44b) for each beam is positioned with the cathode (42) between them. Each modulation electrode partially overlaps the associated electron beam guide to eliminate adverse effects of contour differences or misalignment of the edges (48) of these electrodes.

Abstract: A cathodoluminescent display device is composed of a plurality of channels. Each of the channels includes spaced guide meshes between which electrons from an electron gun are propagated as beams. At the end of the channels away from the electron gun is a collector and a deflection electrode. The guide meshes are extended between the collector and deflection electrode. Collection apertures in the extended portions pass electrons to the collector. Collection of the electrons by the collector generates a signal which is sensed and used to maintain uniformity of the characteristics of the beams.
