Abstract:
IMPROVED CATALYSTS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFINS WHICH COMPRISES AN ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUND AND THE REACTION PRODUCED OF A LIQUID HALOGENATED DERIVATIVE OF A TRANSITION METAL AND A SOLID SUPPORT CONSITUTED BY AN OXIDE OF CALCIUM AND/OR MAGNESIUM ARE PROVIDED. THE SOLID SUPPORTS FOR THE IMPROVED CATALYSTS ARE OBTAINED BY THE HEAT TREATMENT OF AN OPTIONALLY HYDRATED, CARBONATE OR BASIC CARBONATE OF CALCIUM OR MAGNESIUM AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 350 AND 1000*C.
Abstract:
HIGHLY ACTIVE CATALYSTS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFINS RESULT FROM THE COMBINATION OF AN ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUND AND A COMPLEX OBTAINED BY REACTING A HALOGENATING AGENT AND A TRANSITION METAL COMPOUND SELECTED FROM THE HALIDES, OXYHALIDES, HALOALKOXIDES, OXYALKOXIDES AND ALKOXIDES OF THE METALS OF GROUPS IVB, VB AND VIB OF THE PERIODIC TABLE WITH A SOLID SUPPORT COMPRISED OF AN OXYGENATED COMPOUND OF A BIVALENT METAL WHICH IS SUBSTANTIALLY ANHYDROUS AND IS SUBSTANTIALLY FREE OF HYDROXYL GROUPS.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the polymerization of alpha -olefins and to catalysts and cocatalysts for that purpose wherein the polymerization is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising an organometallic compound of a metal of Groups Ia, IIa, IIb, IIIa, and IVa of the Periodic Table and a solid cocatalyst comprising the reaction product of a halogenating agent, an organic oxygenated compound of a divalent metal, and a derivative of a transition metal of Groups IVb, Vb, and VIb of the Periodic Table, the proportions of halogenating agent and organic oxygenated compound being that required to result in a reaction product thereof having an atomic ratio of halogen/divalent metal greater than 1. The invention also comprises the method of making the cocatalysts.
Abstract:
Polymerization and copolymerization is carried out in the presence of an improved transition metal based catalyst. The catalyst is obtained by activating with an organometallic compound, the solid product which results from the reaction of a halogen containing transition metal compound with an alkoxy metal compound of the formula Xm-nM(OR)n wherein M is at least one metal selected from the elements of Groups Ia, IIa, IIb, IIIa and VIIb of the Periodic Table, X is a monovalent inorganic radical, R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, m is the valence of M and n is an integer such that 1
