Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent data from being erroneous due to crosstalk and to make high- speed access possible, by performing decision for the address, tracking, and so on before a rotary head scans the objective data track. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic tape 10 where address information, tracking information, and so on are recorded previously on tracks 17 and 16 along the upper end and the lower end is used, and tape 10 in the stationary state is scanned obliquely by rotary heads 13E, 13W and 13R arranged on the outside circumference of drums 11 and 12 which are provided in the running path of this tape 10. Then, tape 10 is caused to run up to objective data track 19 intermittently, and tape feed is completed during one rotation of rotary head 13, and further, signals reproduced from tracks 17 and 16 are used to perform decision for the address, tracking, and so on before the rotary head scans this data track 19.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous read due to crosstalk to use the data track effectively, by arranging writing, reading, and erasing heads at proper intervals when the rotary head adapted for the bulk recording system of the computer is obtained. CONSTITUTION:On tape 10, servo track 17 and address track 16 are recorded in the lengthwise direction, and data track 19 is recorded obliquely to the width direction. The tape is wound around drum 11 at approximately 180 deg.. This tape is caused to run up to the object position, and in the static state, the rotary head scans track 19. In the rotary head, reading head 13R and reproducing head 13W are arranged at the angular interval equal to the magnetic tape winding angle for the drum, and erasing head 13E is arranged in the position preceding the recording head. Tracking detection is performed by the oblique-line part of address signals An+1, An, and An-1 reproduced by the erasing head and address detection is performed by center An.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To record a track address at a high code rate by grouping the gray codes of plural bits corresponding to the track address for every two bits, converting the code to the code of three bits corresponding to the value of the group and recording the code to a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:First of all, the binary numbers of 12-bit is converted to gray codes A11, A10,...,A1, and A0 (source codes) of 12-bit. Afterwards, the gray codes of 12-bit are divided for every two bits, and the respective codes of two bits are converted to the channel data of three bits by 2/3 conversion. Therefore, encoder addresses B17, B16,...,B1 and B0 of 18-bits are generated as a whole and recorded to the area corresponding to an address pattern 5 in the magnetic disk. Thus, the code rate as a ratio between the number of bits in the source data and the number of bits in the channel data becomes 2:2, namely, becomes 0.67 and the code rate is improved.
