    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable wobbling without spoiling the performance and to obtain high resolution by converging incident light on a position on the light incidence side of a wobbling element, corresponding to a pixel of an optical element, to specific size. CONSTITUTION:A microlens 76 is arranged opposite having an optical axis common to a microlens 74 on a display side and constitutes a light converging element 77 for projection light from the display 2. In this case, incident light 6 from each pixel of the display 2 can securely be converged on the microlens 76 through the microlens 74 and made incident on the liquid crystal element 3 of the wobbling elements 7 as parallel light to the same width and the same size with a transparent electrode 13. Therefore. the width or size of the luminous flux of the incident light becomes equal to the width or size of a black stripe part 75. Consequently, polarized light 6 projected from the display 2 is made incident on a liquid crystal element 3 to the same width and the same pitch and shifted in phase by this liquid crystal element 3 to change the direction of the polarized light.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To uniformly form the gap between the glass substrates of a liquid crystal display element at a prescribed value with good accuracy by specifying the surface roughness of the pressurizing surface of the jig for pressure adhering to a specific value or below. CONSTITUTION:The jig 10 for pressure adhering is constituted of a lower metallic plate 1a, an upper metallic plate 1b parallel therewith and guide rods 2a, 2b erecting perpendicularly on the lower metallic plate 1a. Holes are so bored in the upper metallic plate 1b that the guide rods 2a, 2b are fitted therein. The surface roughness of the opposite surfaces of the lower metallic plate 1a and the upper metallic plate 1b is specified to 0.4S pr smaller surface roughness specified by the requirements specified in JIS(Japanese Industrial Standards) B0601, i.e., 0.4mum or smaller in order to control the gap between the glass substrates to 1.4mum+ or -0.1mum at the time of assembling the liquid crystal element for which, for example, a ferroelectric liquid crystal is used. Such metallic plates 1a, 1b are produced preferably of a material having a high hardness; for example, plates of alloy tool steel SKS-3 provided with titanium layers of 4mum thickness on the surfaces to be formed as pressurizing surfaces thereof are usable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To inject liquid crystal in a short time and stabilize the initial orientation of liquid crystal, to easily position a liquid crystal reservoir and a liquid crystal cell without contacting, and to decrease the amount of liquid crystal used at the time of the liquid crystal injection and improve the yield of the liquid crystal injection into the liquid crystal cell. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal cell 2 which has a space where the liquid crystal is charged between a couple of transparent substrates 6a and 6b is provided with 22 liquid crystal injection holes 5 or the width of a liquid crystal injection hole is increased. The liquid crystal injection hole 5 is positioned so that the liquid crystal can be injected crossing the direction of the liquid crystal orienting films of the glass substrates 6a and 6b. The peripheral wall of the space of the liquid crystal reservoir where the liquid crystal cell 2 is put is tapered downward. Further, the space of the liquid crystal reservoir where the liquid crystal is reserved is slanted. The liquid crystal begins to be degassed once entering an isotropic state when the liquid crystal is injected.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To precisely and uniformly form the cell gap of the liquid crystal display element to a specific value by using a seal agent which has specific viscosity for the liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:The peripheral part (external frame) of one glass substrate 1 of the liquid crystal display element which has a couple of glass substrates is coated with the seal agent for the liquid crystal display element by printing, thereby forming a seal agent layer 2. In this case, the viscosity of the seal agent is 100-300 poise, so when this agent is used to assemble the liquid crystal display element, the seal agent can reasonably be applied over the glass substrate 1 to uniform thickness. At this time, the coating width of the seal agent for the liquid crystal display element is set to 0.2-0.8mm and then the adhesive strength and no position shift between the glass substrates 1 are further provided. Consequently, the cell gap of the liquid crystal display element can uniformly and precisely be controlled.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve injection property and dispensability of a liquid crystal and to uniformly obtain a voltage-transmittance curve with high linearity all over the plane by injecting a liquid crystal between a pair of substrates, cooling the liquid crystal to the temp. to show a chiral smectic C phase and then increasing the temp. to show a chiral nematic phase. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal is injected between a pair of substrates at the temp. at which the liquid crystal shows N* (chiral nematic phase) (an arrow I), cooled to the temp. at which the liquid crystal shows SmC* (chiral smectic C phase) (an arrow II) after injection, and then further heated to the temp. at which the liquid crystal shows N* (chiral nematic phase) (an arrow III). Therefore, by injecting the liquid crystal while viscosity of the liquid crystal is maintained to a certain degree, dispersibility of a component such as fine particles in the liquid crystal is increased. By heating the liquid crystal to N* after cooling to SmC*, reorientation of the liquid crystal can be effectively performed and uniform orientation can be obtd. for the whole plane. Thus, characteristics with good linearity and easy controlling of gradation can be obtd.

CONSTITUTION:A ferroelectric liquid crystal device whose response speed t1 is faster than a response speed t2 of an optical element (a TFT view finder in this embodiment) is adopted as a liquid crystal of a liquid crystal element used for wobbling. The time in which the transmission rate between the liquid crystal element and the optical element reaches 50% of a desired value is made coincident, the ferroelectric liquid crystal in the liquid crystal element reaches quickly a desired cone angle, a picture element of the optical element is surely shifted to an object position, a picture of one field is completely deviated and a sharp picture is obtained. In order to make the effect more remarkable, it is desired that the response speed t1 of the ferroelectric liquid crystal display device is set to 50% or below the response speed of the optical element subject to wobbling.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve phase control characteristics and more particularly the resolution of a display element, etc., to be wobbled by forming the liquid crystal oriented films to be formed on electrodes of the phase control element of polyimide. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of transparent glass substrates 20, 21 are provided with transparent electrodes 13, 14 and are further formed with polyimide films 22, 23 as the liquid crystal oriented films thereon. These polyimide oriented films 22, 23 are subjected to prescribed rubbing treatments. The substrates 20, 21 with such oriented films are so assembled that the orientation treatment directions thereof are, for example, counterparalleled with each other on the opposite face. Glass beads 24 meeting the desired gap length are used as the spacers. The spacers are dispersed into a sealing material 25 for adhering the circumference in the case of the area smaller than the size of the transparent substrates, by which the gap between the substrates is controlled.
