Abstract: The present invention is concerned with control and detection of a laser beam for an optical disc recording/reproducing apparatus in which the intensity of a return laser beam reflected by an optical recording medium of a recording laser beam used for forming pits (P) and recording data on the recording medium during the recording mode is detected and an error signal including focusing and tracking error signals of the recording laser beam is formed on the basis of a detection output of the intensity of the return laser beam within a predetermined time interval ( tau ) before the pit (P) starts to be formed by the recording laser beam on the recording medium to control the recording laser beam, and in which, when recording data on the optical recording medium having sub-data previously recorded thereon as pre-grooves with wobbling, these sub-data are detected on the basis of the detection output of the return laser beam within said predetermined time interval ( tau ) or within a predetermined time interval other than said predetermined time interval ( tau ).

SOLUTION: A first block recorded in an optical disk 5 and a second block preceding the first block are converted to first encoded data and second encoded data respectively by making them correspond to one recording region on the optical disk 5 assigned with a block unit and compression-encoding them, and are stored in memories 19, 20. When data are recorded in some recording region on the optical disk, the first encoded data or the second encoded data correlated to the recording region and compression-encoded are selected in accordance with a defect detection result.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and securely record identification data peculiar to a disk-like recording medium by forming a fault in a stage before a reflection film is formed so that a bit error which is difficult to correct is generated and recording information peculiar to the disk-like recording medium by means of a sector which is difficult to correct. SOLUTION: The fault in the stage before the reflection film is formed is formed so that the bit error which is difficult to correct is generated. Peculiar information is recorded in the disk-like recording medium by means of the sector which is difficult to correct. Namely, an optical disk 1 is formed so that a user data recording area 7 is managed in a sector unit. The plural sectors formed in the user data recording area 7 are discretely and selectively allocated to individual information recording sectors 8. In the optical disk 1, the individual information recording sectors 8 are selectively formed into the sectors which are difficult to error-corrected. Thus, peculiar data (namely, it is constituted by ID information and the like) can be recorded in the optical disk 1 with the setting of the sectors which are difficult to be error-corrected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase operation speed of change processing performed when a defective sector is detected and to enable recording data without using capacity uselessly, when data is recorded in an optical disk. SOLUTION: When data is recorded in an optical disk, recorded data is divided into blocks corresponding to integral multiple of sectors of an optical disk, an error correction code is added for each block, data to which an error correction code is added is recorded making a fragment having the prescribed size corresponding to integral multiple of a block as a unit detecting whether a defect exists in a sector to be recorded or not. And when a defective sector is detected during recording data in a fragment, rerecording data to be recorded in the sector is performed in the succeeding sector in the fragment.
