Abstract: A method of correcting errors in digital data comprising a data block made up of a predetermined number of symbols, in which a first and a second series of error corrector codes have been added to the data, the method comprising performing an error correcting process consisting of repeatedly correcting the data using the first and second code series, detecting the occurrence of a data request signal requesting the data, and terminating execution of the error correcting process in response to receipt of the data request signal.

Abstract: In an error correcting method for a block of data having first and second error correction codes based on first and second series of symbols within the data block, error correction is performed repeatedly by alternately using the first and second code series, to achieve the maximum error correcting capability, without reference to the result of a previous error correction using the other series.

Abstract: A product code arranged in a rectangular array is formed of a data portion comprising data bytes (D0 to D523), an error detecting code (EDC), and parity portions (C1 and C2). A generator for the product code includes a RAM for storing the data and parity codes. The error detecting code (EDC) is generated at the same time as the parity code, thereby reducing the processing time. The error detecting code (EDC) is processed with the data to produce the parity code of the corresponding data block. A decoder for the code corrects errors on the basis of the parity codes but, upon receipt of a data request signal, error correction is interrupted and the required data is output as long as no error is detected on the basis of the error detecting code (EDC).

Abstract: When a time-sequential signal such as an analog or digital data signal is recorded on a disc-shaped recording medium (11), the transmission rate of the digital data is determined or the time-sequential analog signal is sampled at a predetermined sampling frequency to obtain time-sequential digital data which is sequentially recorded on the disc-shaped recording medium (11). The rotational speed of the disc-shaped recording medium (11) is controlled in response to the transmission rate of the time-sequential digital data. The transmission rate is recognised by a speed control signal generator circuit (36) either from clock signals derived from self-clocking digital data supplied to an input terminal (31D), or from a separate signal indicative of the transmission rate supplied to a terminal (31R). In the case of an analog signal supplied to an input terminal (31A), an analog-to-digital converter (32) sets the transmission rate and this is detected by the speed control signal generator circuit (36). The rotational speed of the disc-shaped recording medium (11) is controlled by controlling the speed of a driving motor (21) by means of a phase comparator circuit (23), an integrator circuit (24) and a motor drive circuit (25).

Abstract: A circuit for detecting existence of an information signal comprising an input circuit provided for supply with the information signal, a clamp circuit for clamping a signal obtained from the input circuit to a predetermined fixed DC level, a level detector for detecting the amplitude level of an output of the clamp circuit and for producing a DC output with its level corresponding to the detected amplitude level, and a level comparator for comparing the DC output from the level detector with a predetermined reference voltage to produce an output signal assuming a first level when the DC output is higher than the reference voltage and a second level when the DC output is lower than the reference voltage. The first level or second level of the output signal from the level comparator indicates that the information signal is supplied to the input circuit.

Abstract: AN OPTICAL REPRODUCING APPARATUS ACOORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION INCLUDES A LAND/GROOVE SWITCHING CIRCUIT FOR ALTERNATELY SWITCHING REPRADUCTION OF A RECORD MARK ON A GROOVE PORTION (G) AND A LAND PORTION (L). THIS ALLOWS A TRACKING OPERATION TO BE CARRIED OUT CONTINUOUSLY AT A CONNECTION POINT TO A SUBSEQUENT TRACK IN THE RECORDING DIRECTION WITHOUT A LASER BEAM FROM AN OPTICAL PICKUP (2) PASSING THROUGH AN END OF A SPIRAL TRACK. A RECORDING MEDIUM (1) ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION INCLUDES A RECORDING TRACK FORMED OF A GROOVE PORTION (G) AND A LAND PORTION (L), AND A RECORD MARK USED FOR SWITCHING A TRACKING OPERATION SO THAT A LIGHT BEAM EMITTED FROM THE OPTICAL PICKUP (2) SHOULD BE IRRADIATED ALTERNATELY ON THE GROOVE PORTION (G) AND THE LAND PORTION (L). WHEN THE RECORD MARK IS DETECTED, A TRACK JUMP OPERATION IS CARRIED OUT, AND INFORMATION IS REPRADUCED FROM THE GROOVE PORTION (G) AND THE LAND PORTION (L) ALTERNATELY.FIGURE 6
