Abstract: Clock marks for extracting clock components are made in advance at regular intervals along the track of a discoid recording medium, and clock components are extracted by detecting these clock marks at the time of rotating the discoid recording medium. Since the clock components are extracted from the definitely and periodically arranged clock marks in such a way, and interpolating clocks in sections between clock marks are generated based on the extracted clock components, highly accurate clocks can be obtained as compared with the case where clocks are extracted from reproduced codes. Therefore, the capacity of the discoid recording medium can be remarkably increased.

Abstract: In a load/unload apparatus for loading/unloading a head slider, an actuator (3) is driven by pulses from a driving circuit (11), and when the pulse is OFF a counterelectromotive force is detected in a voice coil motor and is fed back to the driving circuit, so that the driving circuit (11) controls the position and the speed of the actuator. Accordingly, the load/unload speed can be controlled to a desired value, and collision between a head and a disk can be minimized.

Abstract: There are provided a spindle motor 12, an optical head 20, a high-pass filter 31, low-pass filters 32 and 33, an adder 38, and a PLL 39. The spindle motor 12 rotatively drives an optical disk 11. The optical head 20 irradiates a laser beam onto a target track and both tracks adjacent to the target track on the optical disk 11 and detects a return light from each track. The high-pass filter 31 filters a high-frequency component in a signal used for detecting a return light from a target track in the optical head 20. Each of the low-pass filters 32 and 33 filters a low-frequency component in a signal used for detecting a return light from each of the adjacent tracks. The adder 38 operates output signals from the high-pass filter 31, and the low-pass filters 32 and 33. Based on a signal from the adder 38, the PLL 39 generates a reference signal used as a time reference for generating recording signals. An operation by the adder 38 nullifies a cross modulation component.

Abstract: An optical recording medium capable of realizing high density and reliability in a recording/reproducing operation and facilitating the process which is performed by a drive apparatus is provided. The amplitude of an amount of wobbling of a track is made to be 10 nm to 15 nm and a track pitch of the track is made to be 0.74 µm to 0.82 µm. These values enable large-capacity recording to be realised and the recording/reproducing performance to be prevented from being deteriorated. As administration information, recommended information for a recording/reproducing operation at an inner peripheral position and an outer peripheral position is recorded. The size of data in a linking section is made to be the same as a sector for constituting a data block.

Abstract: The information storage disc has ID storage areas (41H) formed in predetermined locations in the radial direction of the disc, the ID storage areas storing either sector or track numbers (resp. 40,41) previously and magnetically. In this setup, if the read head (30) is dislodged from the center line of a given track (10), the read head still reads the sector number correctly. The information recording and reproducing apparatus has the read head (30) and the write head (31) arranged so that they are positioned on a given intermediate track in a substantially aligned manner. With the write head positioned on a given track, the read head is dislodged from that track only by a negligible distance. This allows the read head to read sector and track numbers unfailingly from the disc.
