Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method which increases the operating range, in order to improve the performance of an electro-optical system and/or changes a beam cross section. SOLUTION: Voltage is impressed to a variable lens, in order to change a shape of liquid of the variable lens so that the operating range in an electro-optical reading apparatus or imaging device for reading inscription can be enlarged. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized assembly for scanning a display mark which contains vibratile parts having functions of focusing, sweeping of light beam crossing the display mark and further correction of scan aberration, if necessary. SOLUTION: A laser diode emitting the beam is inserted in a center of an opening of a wound electric coil in order to save a space. A magnet on the parts interacts with the coil to cause vibration. A floating flexure returns the parts to an equilibrium position.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a module which is easily produced and inexpensively easily assembled by decreasing the dimension and the weight of component parts used to perform scanning operation by a light beam and condense reflected light and developing a compact and light-weight electrooptical scanning system. SOLUTION: The reverse reflection type optical scanning module of the bar code reader equipped with a window part is provided with a light source part 18 directing a light beam 16 to a code to be read, and an optical assembly having a condensing part condensing the light on a sensor 40 along the optical path and directing it again. The optical axis of the condensing part is deviated from the optical axis of the emitted light beam so that the emitted light partially reflected by the window part of the reader may not irradiate the sensor.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reinforce the ability of a computer by providing a data gathering module with a processor for processing data read by a bar code reader and an interface for connection with a computer interface. SOLUTION: A grip or trigger 24 projected downwards from the lower surface of a receiving base is provided, and when a user holds the trigger 24, a scanning window is directed to a front part. Then, the receiving base is provided with a scanning engine and the required beam generation, detection and scanning components of the scanning engine are incorporated inside the processor 30 and a scanner 34 together with a decoder and a scanner driver. Further, a visual display device like a light emitting diode 38 and a terminal interface 36 for the connection with the computer interface are incorporated inside the receiving base and the data of a bar code read by the scanner 34 are processed in the processor 30.

PURPOSE: To provide a non-contact bar code confirming device which can be carried, easily used, and obtained with relatively low costs by expressing a reflectance state at the plural points of each target label and calibration by reflectance data. CONSTITUTION: A light reflected from a bar code label is detected by a scanning means arranged in a scanning module 105 behind a scanning window 125. A normal signal processing is locally operated by the scanning module 105 and a unit 110, and data points in 28 rows are generated. Each row is made correspond to the binary digital display of the light reflected from the bar code label during one time of emitter means sweep. The binary digital signal is converted into a time base count with a relative detection transition width by the unit 110. That is, a clocking digitizer generates an individual data point corresponding to a detecting time interval between reflectance level transition parts.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scan module which is used for the purpose of requiring a compact reader. SOLUTION: A non-retroreflective compact scan module in an electro-optical reader includes a laser light source, a photosensor, and an electromagnetic coil which are mounted at one surface of a printed circuit board. The laser emits a laser beam perpendicular to the board and is redirected to an oscillatable sac mirror, which is magnetically centered to a rest position, when the coil is de-energized.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning module used for applications requiring a compact reader. SOLUTION: The non-retroreflective compact scanning module of an electro- optic reader includes a laser beam source attached to one surface of a printed circuit board, a photosensor and a electromagnetic coil. The laser emits the laser beam perpendicularly to the circuit board and when the coil is degaussed, the laser beam is directed again to the oscillatable scanning mirror which magnetically comes to a central position of rest.

PURPOSE: To provide a simple and inexpensive means for adjusting the profile (width at a specified distance from a light source) of a beam in the direction of 'y' as in a desired way. CONSTITUTION: The optical scanner such as a bar code scanner contains a laser diode and generates a scanning laser beam. The laser diode has astigmatism on a characteristic. When the beam 18 passes through a lens having rotational symmetry, the beam 18 is contracted in the direction of 'x' (scanning direction) and the direction of 'y' (right angled direction). The width of the outline of the beam in the direction of 'x' is adjusted by a conventional lens. The width of the outline of the beam in the direction of 'y' is adjusted by using a non-planar mirror, a cylindrical mirror 200 if desired, as a rotary or rocking element.

PURPOSE: To provide a highly practical and reliable and inexpensive hand-carry type scanning device for using a non-laser light source without errors. CONSTITUTION: A light beam is radiated from a light emitting diode so as to read a symbol, a bar code symbol for instance, and reflected light returned from the symbol is received. An optical system inside this scanning device converges the visual field of the light beam 11 and a photosensor 17 to different two planes present at the outside of a housing. A device for image-forming a vision checking window is installed inside the scanning device and the area of the vision checking window is smaller than the one of a scanning spot. The scanning device uses the light emitting diode (LED) 10 as the light source, and since the LED 10 views only the part of the scanning spot viewable through the vision checking window, the scanning spot of the relatively large size (about several millimeters) of the LED 10 is used without sacrificing read performance.
